AIBU to question landlord’s check out report

We have just moved house this year and in between selling our old house and moving into our new build we had to rent for six months. We finally moved out of rented earlier this month and have just got a copy of the check out report. The inpesction shows most things in good order, we are only there for six months and there’s was only the two of us living there. However the dumb ass check out guy has reported back to the landlord that on check in the walls in the hallway were reported as painted light grey but on check out a different inspection agent has said the walls are white. I must point out the the whole house was redecorated before we moved in, every wall in every room is the same colour, an off white/grey colour, there was even left over paint in the garage. So this idiot has reported back to the landlord what seems to be that we had repainted the hallway in a different colour. Absolute rubbish, there’s been zero change to the decorating. Has anyone come across anything like this before on a rented property ? It just looks like a reason for them to delay returning our £2600 deposit.

Challenge it then? Speak to the landlord and say you don't know what the check out clerk is talking about as you haven't painted any walls in the place. Mention the spare paint too.

Definitely challenge it. If you didn’t redecorate it then why would you pay for a substandard work their painter did.

I wouldn’t say the work is substandard it’s one person’s eyes against another. Anyone would be able to see that every room is painted the same colour, we checked in back in March around 5pm. It was dark and the lights were on. Checked out 11am in September, it was daylight. It’s simple incompetence and just appears to be any excuse to hang into our cash for longer.
