Estate agent made an offer without our agreement

The estate agent we are dealing with to buy a house has increased our offer to the buyers without our knowledge or consent. He said it was to avoid more going back and forth of which there has been quite a lot. We are obviously unhappy with this approach -how can we be sure the seller wouldn't have accepted our lower offer? We are still interested in the house but not happy with the agent. We are going to ask him to cut his fee. Does anyone have any experience of doing this?

I'm a little confused - how did the EA increase your offer to the buyers, if you are the buyer? And if you are the buyer, surely the seller is paying the EAs fee, so how can you ask them to cut their fee, if you're not paying him one?

Sorry for the confusion. The EA increased our offer to the vendor without our knowledge or consent. What I'm suggesting is that the agent cut his fee to the vendor to make up the difference between our authorised offer and the unauthorised offer he made on our behalf.

Why have you started a second thread instead of returning to the responses on your first?

The EA cannot increase your offer if you have not increased it. Does this EA also have access to your bank account so he can take any money he wants from it?
