Stains on plastic / uPVC window frames

Hi there everyone

We have a couple of windows in our kitchen that have darkish stains on the joins and along some of the edges. I'm guessing that it's probably some sort of glue or sealant. Whatever it is it looks ugly!

Do you know of any way that I can get rid of them? I'm unsure if the windows are uPVC or just plain old plastic, although I suspect the latter.

I've linked a couple of images for reference.

Many thanks
Jon

Try jif (cif) neat on a soft cloth, this is what I used, took some hard rubbing but mine came up good as new. Once rubbed off wipe over with a damp cloth.

I don't think you are supposed to, but I did anyway:
I used a small amount of methylated spirit on a soft cloth and quickly washed it off once stains removed.
My windows now look brand new - though they may fall out or something due to the meths!

Cif. Then if that doesn't work solvent based uPVC cleaner (painted on rather than put on with a cloth, then buffed off with a cloth). You'll need the window open whilst you do it because of the smell.

This is the one I used on windows so severely nicotine stained I didn't think they could ever be white again.

Thanks LBSH - I'll give that a go if the Cif doesn't work.

Any more ideas? I've used my magic stuff and Cif and while it has cleaned them up beautifully some stubborn stains remain. It's like they are proper stains not dirt. Can I use bleach or will the sun bleach them out now the surface matter (ie bird poop or whatever caused the stains) has been removed?
