Am I being ripped off. Plus general rant.

I am having a bit of a nightmare with a builder.

While I was on holiday a friend was looking after the house. He called a builder/electrician/plumber friend in to fix some issues that came up.

-Replace burnt out out switch on electric shower (the bit with the pull cord you switch on before having a shower.

-Disable smoke alarm which wouldn't switch off

-Stop a radiator leaking. (The guy says he had to take the radiator off the wall)

How much should these 3 jobs cost please? He wants £300.

We also had a light in the bathroom that burnt out. He spent a day trying to repair it. In fact, we have 2 consumer units in the house, he didn't realise there was a second one, and all that had happened was the switch had tripped.. He had our number but didn't call us. Our friend didn't call us either!

He has done a bit of damage, which I think he should put right. Is that fair? We are also having to get another electrician in to rectify it. In all, a tripped switch is going to be pretty expensive I fear.

I am tearing my hair out. It just seems to be one thing after another since we moved in. Practically every week something goes wrong.

As well as the above we have had

Vendor left 2 skips worth of rubbish.

Deck area was unsafe- cost £800.

Boiler blew up. (Despite having specialist survey) Cost £4750

Leak in shower, impossible to have known, although vendor will have known. Cost £350

Vendor ran oil down in tank so low(after survey) it got drawn into radiators. Had to have radiators flushed out.

Chimney needs repointing. No idea of cost but scaffolding is £800.

First world problems I know, but all of this stuff is eating into what I have saved for a new kitchen. This was my dream move, and it is all going wrong.

I am so pissed off with the whole thing I feel like putting it back on tbe market.

Except we bought at the top of the market and it is now not worth what we paid.

Rant over, thanks for reading it!

Why the hell did your friend not contact you? If issues were caused by the person he called out and you have incurred other costs to put it right, I'd be having words with the friend and also with the guy he called out. Find out what the cost of putting the damage right is and deduct it from the £300 bill as a minimum. Ask for a full breakdown of the £300 too.

Thanks, yes I have an electrician in now.

I asked for a breakdown of costs, he hasn't got back to me...
