Large kitchen or small kitchen diner?

Next big job is the kitchen, unfortunately there is not the option for a large kitchen diner, however we can do a small kitchen diner. (Small as in galley kitchen but only 1 wall for units and appliances) or we can have a larger kitchen with island and breakfast seating and lots of units and a separate large dining room separated by a hallway.
I think I’m leaning towards separate but know this is totally against the new trend to have it all open. What would you prefer if you were buying?

In that situation I would prefer the large kitchen as long as the island is nice and big so you can have room for 4 people to sit up on stools for have breakfast or an informal dinner.
