Wood fire surround

If I wanted to paint this would it have to be fireproof paint? It's a wooden fire place for a gas flame fire?

I've painted two over the years with satin finish paint. Wood fire surrounds are perfectly acceptable and will be either oiled or varnished so a paint finish will be no different.
