My husband has a new job and we are moving to Northwich. Could anyone give me a list of nice areas with good schools and areas to avoid please. My sister lives in Northwich but has only lived there 2 years so doesn't know areas that well. Thank you :)

Din't want this to go un answered there are people on here that know the area. I'm not sure where the nice areas are. My oldest Ds works in Northwich, he bought a house in Winsford and drives the 10 minutes to work. He isn't married and has no children yet so doesn't need good schools.

I think Hartford and the school same name in Northwich is very good and the Grange school I believe is very good too. Take a look at weaverham, comberbach and barnton.
We live in winsford but our children are grown up so no true idea about schools.

Have a look at Hartford,
Kingsmead, Davenham, Sandiway, Cuddington and Comberbach but depends on your budget. All good/outstanding primary schools. Not sure on the current view on high schools.

Thank you. Long way off secondary school as my daughters only 6 months at the moment :) whats your view on Barnton and Rudheath?

I know the area well, it depends on budget,
Most of the schools are excellent in Northwich I would avoid the east of the town and stick to the west.
Hartford is nice, nice little village centre shops bars etc.
Davenham is lovely again good has a very village feel.
kingsmead is a new build village with a little village centre the school is excellent but hard to get into
Cuddington and weaverham heading towards Chester is nice too.

But to be fair to Northwich the town as a whole is good, barons Quay is the new shopping development and it’s starting to final fill H & M opens in October !

Agree with suggestions of Hartford, Kingsmead, Davenham, Sandiway and Cuddington.

You can get a very nice 3/4 bed in those areas for £200-300k. Me and DP are thinking of moving around Northwich way next year (currently in Crewe).

Hartford and Cuddington both have stations, so transport links to Chester and Liverpool aren’t bad either.

Gorillaandme · 16/09/2018 12:44

Will keep my eyes peeled for these areas :)

Barnton is preferable to Rudheath in terms of schools and housing.

Sunseed · 16/09/2018 15:48

I'd avoid Rudheath. Whereabouts is your husband's new job? That may influence your choice of location as there are some places that get traffic bottlenecks.

Gorillaandme · 16/09/2018 15:52

His new job is in Salford Quays.

Weaverham, Acton Bridge, Barnton, Comberbach, Antrobus, Little Leigh, Great Budworth would all be well located for getting onto the M56. But depends whether you prefer to be in a village or more urban location.

Gorillaandme · 16/09/2018 16:32

Thank you. I don't mind village as long as there's amenities nearby.

I commute to Manchester City centre it take’s me an hour on a good day, that’s from the centre of Northwich. I try to leave by half seven to avoid the worst of the traffic but it’s still heavy with few bottle necks ! Manchester is not the greatest to commute too, But the new bypass has defo shaved off some time and traffic flows better.
I would also personally avoid Rudheath and also bare in mind the bridge to Barnton is single file and is a serious bottle neck at rush hour. As above all the little villages above are gorgeous but the prices are higher.

Gorillaandme · 16/09/2018 17:03

Rush hour isn't so much of a problem. My husband works 7.00am to 2.00pm. He currently commutes an hour and 45mins to work so an hour would be bliss for him :)

hello! i live in Barnton and love it! There is a real village feel and you're close to the m56, school wise there's little leigh which has class sizes of 16-20 or barnton which is a larger but also very good school. House prizes are really cheap- under 200k for a 3 bed easily. So close to the country side as well.

Northwich has nice and not so nice areas but even the worst parts pale in comparison to rough areas of cities. There is a needle exchange and homeless centre near the train station of northwich, so i would avoid there.

hartford is expensive but has a train station and a few nice bars.

it all depends on how sleepy village you want to go and what houses you fancy for your money. if you search cw8 in right move you will get an idea.

Gorillaandme · 18/09/2018 08:08

I like schools that have small classes. I went to one when I was younger that had only 15 a class. Doubt that happens much these days. I think village life is for us but nice to be short drive to town as well. Just wish we could sell our house now. This is all very stressful!
