House move from London to t'country - cheaper to use a London removals agent or one local to where we're moving to?

That, really.

Currently in London, so I was assuming we'd go with a London firm as it's easy to get them round to quote.

But I was wondering if it is likely to be worth my while contacting firms local to where we're moving to, in case that's likely to be more cost-effective?

Anyone done this?

I would imagine similar price. Maybe even cheaper for local to you now as the journey from their depot will be far less

Removal firms like to have a look at your belongings before they quote, and they probably wouldn't want to make a long journey to you for this, so I would go for a firm local to you, but get several quotes.

I found local to where we were moving to cheaper.

Also, they knew the area/ roads. In our case, we live on a single lane road, so they knew (and had a plan) they had to switch our stuff into different vans. It was a 2 day move for us, so easier to have the night in their own homes and our stuff left at their premises overnighr.
