Built in wardrobes - High Street (Starplan etc) or Joiner?

Hi,

We’re looking at getting built in wardrobes for our daughters bedroom. They will go all the way across a wall fitting around a chimney breast.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts on whether we’re best to go to a High Street store such as Starplan etc or whether to get an independent joiner on the job.

Thanks!

In my experience generally a joiner will be cheaper, and if you do your research to find the right one the quality will be fantastic too, truly bespoke. Good luck!

We've just had ours done, working around a chimney breast like you say, and it was actually a local independent kitchen company that's done them - made to fit a very awkward space (chimney breast plus a ceiling that slopes down through the room partway through) and they are fantastic. I can hide all my crap in them and the room looks tidy!

Worth looking at the local little guy kitchen/bathroom fit places - ours doesn't advertise their fitted wardrobes side of the business as heavily - we only knew about them because they'd just done our bathroom. I don't think we'd have got as good a finished product from a joiner to be honest - it's the fact these guys do kitchen units etc that mean they have access to all the different door finishes etc that's made the difference.

We used Sharps and while the end-result is perfect, the process was hell. Delays, poor communication, pieces cut incorrectly so more delays for replacements to arrive, delays, delays not communicated until halfway through the morning that the builder is supposed to be there. Delays when halfway finished with builder's stuff everywhere making the room wholly unuseable. Did I mention DELAYS?? Seriously don't touch them.
