Help! Maggots in kitchen!

Hi everyone,
I've recently bought and moved into a property but the other day discovered a load of maggots under kitchen units/ under the indoor doormat! Every night I spray bug spray under the units, which gets out any new ones out from under the units, so I can get rid of them.
They were not there 2 weeks ago when I had to look under the units for another issue. I've already spent a lot of my savings on the house decorating, etc (I don't have a partner to share costs), and want to avoid forking out for pest control which is pricey. But I'm keen to find the source of the problem.
Has anyone got any advice? I'm doing everything I should be to prevent the problem worsening (bleaching, ensuring bins are kept clean and sealed, not leaving out any food), but if anyone has had to tackle this before, your help would be appreciated.
...I have a vision of myself dressed head to foot in overalls and Marigolds, having a good feel around under and behind the units Confused. Why don't they cover his sort of thing in those glossy home style magazines, which have totally seduced me? This is the flipside of home ownership then (my first every property) Grin
Thanks all

Poor you. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I would make sure kitchen is very clean and tidy and bleach twice a day.

Mop surfaces down none stop with boiling water and bleach- obviously destroy any you see. Check nothing nasty is lurking behind a cupboard.

If you keep doing this, problem shouldn't last too long..

Good luck.

there is something they are living on. if they are on the floor they are probably falling off it. Perhaps a dead rodent or bird. You have to find and remove it.

Bleach and sprays will not remove it.

Do they grow into flies, or something else?

Hi, yes, I thought that could be the case, but I can't see anything under the fitted units. There hasn't been any smell of a dead rat or anything - I've experienced that in a former rental property so would recognise that horrendous smell again.
Actually, a friend popped round today - he's a bricklayer and reckons my damp course is too low, causing damp issues and possibly a fly-friendly environment. Hopefully I'm getting closer to the cause of the problem. Pretty sure they're turning into small black flies.

it's possible you have a drain leak, might be under the floor.
