It's me again, pecking brains until this kitchen is sorted!! Grin

After much debate about whether integrated is best or not I am pro and dh is against but that's all now been dealt with I am after :

An integrated washing machine

Integrated dryer

Five burner gas hob (this has got to be silver not black)

Eye level ovens

Integrated dishwasher

Aaand a freestanding American style fridge freezer. Now here's the catch; does anyone have a BIG fridge which is less bulkier than an American?? And might even be the same depth as a standard kitchen cabinet? (600mm) We have looked at sub zeros and they are out of our league price wise.

So. If any of you lovely lot have any fab reccomendations to make of the above stuff pleeeeease help me out. Ta very much!

One question about painted/solid wood cabinets : can you use flash bleach or products containing bleach on them? If not, how do you get rid of hard to shift stains such as tea/tumeric/tomatoe sauce?

@Newkitchenideas1 I've got the plan of it up on my other thread titled 'pics of my new kitchen but I don't like it!' Grin

@Worieddd yes I think you've done brilliantly ! I think everyone has sourced some real bargains when buying appliances; I'm currently doing my appliances list now and the prices for individual pieces are mega expensive ! Did you guy the rest of your appliances from curry's then?

OP posts:
Newkitchenideas1 · 06/09/2018 12:41

Oh yes I had a look at that thread when you first added it but it’s moved on quite a bit now Shock
Are you happy with your new design or do you still want to make changes? You have so much more than us and for a great price, I wonder how much it would have been if you weren’t friends with the kitchen guy!?

I have spoken to Dp and said we need to hunt around and maybe do some quotes online for buying the units. We know what we need so maybe we can find cheaper elsewhere!

Even though we got good deals on ours we have still spent £2400 on just the hob and ovens so still need fridge and freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher so now I need to do some real bargain hunting lol

onewayoflife · 06/09/2018 13:49

@Newkitchenideas1 I've messaged you a recommendation of someone who can probably help you sort your kitchen cheaper Smile

nutellaontoastgirl · 06/09/2018 16:14

@Newkitchenideas1 the design has changed even from the last design that I put up so that thread helped me loads in getting some really good ideas and helped me to make full use of the space while still staying stylish Smile
I'm really happy with my design now, although small things are changing daily and driving dh mad such as which appliances should be integrated and which shouldn't be ..

(We've just spent the day at the new house as we've had lots going on; our old electric metre was in the front door side panel (daft place to have a metre!), so we've had to have the regional electricity suppliers involved alongside our electrician to have that moved to the side of the house. After Eight weeks of waiting ,digging, and inspections, we finally have the metre moved and are now able to fit glass in our front door panel - happy doesn't even begin to cover it Grin)

Totally off the point of appliances but just had to get it out there, far too excited not to Grin

OP posts:
Newkitchenideas1 · 06/09/2018 20:45

Thanks one way, I have emailed them.. will let you know how it goes.

Yay that sounds exciting nutella, it's important to be pleased with the front of your house! How odd to have the metre placed there!?
I will have a good read of your thread later, we have contacted a few places to get alternative quotes.

Hope I haven't derailed your appliance thread 🙈 did you have a look at the hotpoint fridge and freezer, any good?? Are you still undecided on an American fridge/freezer?

mum2015 · 07/09/2018 11:02

Nutella,
Sorry to hijack the thread, would you share how much did it cost to move the meter. Did you also move fuse box. Our electricity meter is in kitchen, I would love to have pantry cupboard instead of it

NewKitchenLove · 07/09/2018 12:18

We had a huge debate about the fridge freezer. Started off with integrated in the plans but decided they weren’t big enough. Thought a standard American was too big. Eventually have ended up with an 80cm American style and love it

nutellaontoastgirl · 07/09/2018 17:02

@mum2015 all together it cost us around £1000 which paid all the various people involved. The regional distributor charged us £300 which was their lowest quote as our cables didn't need bringing in any further than our front door.

OP posts:
nutellaontoastgirl · 07/09/2018 17:05

Yes we moved the fuse box to under the stairs and our gas and electric metre cupboards are now on the exterior wall of the house which is perfect as no space inside is wasted.

Deff have a look in to getting it removed, it's a long-winded process from the very beginning but so worth it!

OP posts:
nutellaontoastgirl · 07/09/2018 17:15

About the American fridge freezer... yes I had a look but I think it's abit on the small side for us. 😩

I think I'll have to stick with a big American fridge freezer to be honest and have a chest freezer somewhere in the garage most likely. I think the fridge freezer of my dreams isn't built yet in the affordable price bracket Grin

I've pretty much found integrated tumble dryer and washing machine, double oven, hob and extractor fan (all neff except tumble dryer which is hoover and has been a complete arseache to find !).

We've ordered our front and back doors today.. £2500ShockShock I'm waking up in the night worrying now! Confused who knew doors could cost so much!

Just need to order a kitchen and bathroom now ... but I've switched from a brilliant white kitchen to slate grey and driving dh mad in the process, why is he so stressed?? I'm not one bit Grin soooo need to have a bit more of a think and get some quotes Grin

mum2015 · 07/09/2018 17:23

nutellaontoastgirl,
Thank you. I might have to choose between quartz worktop and moving meter. I guess I can live with laminate Sad.

bobkate · 07/09/2018 17:35

nutella did you find a good price for the neff extractor and hob? Wondering where else I can search. My googling powers are diminishing by the day it seems and I have so many tabs open on my laptop I have no idea if I'm coming or going!

nutellaontoastgirl · 07/09/2018 18:03

Jesus, just had the grey kitchen quote back. £12,500, gulp. That includes absolutely everything though; all neff appliances so that's a double oven, 90cm extractor fan, 75cm 5 burner gas hob, integrated washing machine and integrated dishwasher. (14 place setting). Worktops, x 2 sinks and the kits etc.

Is there wiggle room with Howdens does anyone know? Any room to negotiate? I have set up my own trade account with them so dealing with them directly.

It's looking like it's out of our budget though. In comparison to getting the other kitchen for between 8/9k ( including all the things listed above) , it's not much better quality than the first. In fact, the first looks like better quality and the cabinets are made to measure as well.

OP posts:
nutellaontoastgirl · 07/09/2018 18:07

@bobkate Howdens are offering a small discount on the neff hob and extractor. Although the extractor is working out more expensive than the hob Hmm
Apart from that, I havnt found anywhere else. I'm reluctant to buy them online from unknown shops. It will be either John Lewis or curry's , probably curry's as they're offering a 10% off multi buy items.

I've just found this thread and wanted to say thank you.

Unfortunately I don't have any thing to offer yet but I think it's going to really useful for me as we are about to start building our house and we haven't finalised the kitchen yet (or bathrooms, bedrooms, flooring, windows etc) but it's great to see the ideas everyone has!

I may be starting some threads myself about some of our decisions!

nutellaontoastgirl · 07/09/2018 19:08

@Bewarethequietboy you are very welcome Grinif you think this is great, may I refer you to my other thread titled 'pics of my new kitchen but I don't like them!' Which went on for over ten pages I think it was , and was so amazingly helpful as well! GrinWink

MyNameIsJane · 07/09/2018 20:16

Thank you! Lots of ideas here for me too. (I’m no help though) I’m looking into Gorenje appliances. Anyone had them?

nutellaontoastgirl · 07/09/2018 21:16

@MyNameIsJane I had no idea what goronje was until I googled it ! What's good about this brand, why have you chosen to buy this brand ?

OP posts:
nutellaontoastgirl · 07/09/2018 21:27

ShockShock a goronje larder fridge and freezer might just be what I'm looking for ! 20 bags of shopping fit in the fridge Shock and it's only 65cm deep Shock

OP posts:
MyNameIsJane · 07/09/2018 21:42

@nutellaontoastgirl Gorenje was mentioned on another thread on MN and I looked at their website and the prices seemed reasonable.

onewayoflife · 08/09/2018 08:36

We went to some quite high end kitchen places and they all said if you can't afford Miele, get gorenje as they are brilliant. We got a ridiculous price on neff in the end but I'd have happily bought gorenje ones otherwise.

Nutella: the coloured kitchens are always quite a bit more than white. What would a grey one from your DHs mate cost? But regarding howdens I think they are quite expensive for the quality you get

Saffronesque · 08/09/2018 08:58

@nutellaontoastgirl

Chapattis are easy to puff up on induction - I didn't believe it till I used my induction for the first time.

I chose quartz worktop & specifically tested about 20 samples with dried on tomato chonk, haldi, oil, tea & coffee stains.

Wood is a bit of a nightmare with many of those.

I bought my kitchen ex display 4.5m x 5m & integrated everything except the fridge freezer as that has been the item to fail fastest for me. I have a duplicate fridge freezer in my garage for overflow so ready to pull into action!

There are websites for ex display & pre owned kitchens - I had no idea that people would move into homes with 1 to 3 year old kitchens full of top end kit & pull it out immediately! Or just get bored & replace periodically. But you also get ex display at around 25-50% of rsp & a de ent kitchen fitter can get it to fit your space as you wish.

My 25k kitchen cost me around 12k including an subcontinental-cuisine- managing extractor fan that is gorgeous but industrial & 1m wide, cost 2k in itself. Also includes water softener to stop washing machine etc hard water issues.

Saffronesque · 08/09/2018 09:04

My appliances are all Siemens & Neff. At the time of buying 4 years ago, miele were going through a reliabity crisis & not helped by having crap customer service.

As pp said, check which? & cross check with ao.com Amazon & even John Lewis. I find that which? isn't the only source of user reviews & have been struck by how many best buys have which? reviewers very angry at being influenced into buying those items. Hence i triangulate - but kitchen was a really big deal for me & I did a lot of research.
