Please tell me more houses will come onto the market in the next few weeks!

Just been obsessively checking Rightmove every hour for pretty much the past six weeks and getting a bit frustrated! I really hope it’s true people wait till September to list their houses!

Aside from December, the school summer holidays are probably the quietest time for the property market in the whole year.

Another obsessive checker here. Checking for my instant notifications a few times a day. There has been nothing this week not even 1 notification, just a few price reductions.

Have you sold? We are on the market and have a couple of people interested, but they both need buyers for theirs, so I am telling myself there is no drastic hurry. but that isn't really working in my head!!

We have sold ours and I cannot believe how little there is out there. I'm also obsessively checking rightmove.

@PositiveAttitude we’re FTB but are desperate for somewhere as our rental really isn’t working anymore and I’m not sure how much longer my DP can live with it!! Been looking since March but managed to increase our mortgage budget significantly in July so we’re looking in a nicer area now but only two of the type of house we’re after coming have come on in that time and neither were quite right!

Ahh I can’t imagine selling and buying at the same time!! But it’s great you’ve got interest and in some ways it’s good the dream house hasn’t come on yet as it gives you time to get a firm offer on yours!

It's been a bad market anyway, prices falling, most people reducing.

We ftb and been looking bristol and the market is dire.
Thankfully we found somewhere unexpected but nervous in case it falls through.

Everyone says sept when kids go back more will come to market.

The ones we have looked at

3 deceased estate
Young couple relocation as just had baby
Few retired people lookling to downsize

Issues we had its too small as we have 4kids.

Really bad area

Or needs more work than we can afford

Lots are staying on market ages
Some proce reductions

So much seems overpriced.

2 estate agents turned up late
Many dont bother adding floor plans or hardly any pics to right move.

Some are cagey about exact location we cancelled 2 veiwings before seeing property just by doing a drive by.

Husband hates rented house and was desparate to buy anything.

Feel your pain OP!
I am trying to sell but there's nothing on the market that I want to buy.
We just had an offer fall through and are re-marketing our place now. The market is dead it seems like no one is moving unless they have to, and first time buyers are as rare as unicorn poo so it's impossible to complete a chain.

@3asAbird great that you found somewhere in the end- I hope it doesn’t fall through for you!!

We are in the north east by the way- it seems like prices aren’t really going down like some areas but there are just many sellers who price over optimistically and have been on the market for ages. I was so fed up with lack of new properties I ended up going through ones around 10% over our max budget, that had been listed 4+ months ago, all of which needed work eg new bathroom /kitchen, and ringing EA to ask if it’s worth viewing them. All times I was told by the EA that it’s worth asking as they’ve had no offers, then the EA rings them and they say no as they’re holding out to closer to the asking price. I wish EAs would just value things reasonably because overvaluing just means that people think that’s what their property is worth, and they calculate their next move based on that value and won’t accept lower! I’ve also done lots of comparing listing prices with actual sold prices in the area and often the actual sold price is about 10% under asking! Especially ones that look like they need a bit of work!

@peachypetite me too- completely obsessed , I think it’s unhealthy! I’ve had a lot of time off over the summer as I work in schools and honestly I feel like house hunting / market research has become my full time job , was really hoping to have somewhere by now and feel like a failure! But fingers crossed there will be more options soon!

Lolly - totally agree. We made a sensible offer on a house that has been on and off the market for nearly a year! They seem to be holding out for the asking but ultimately a house is only what someone is willing to pay for it.

Why don't you just set up instant or daily email alerts for Zoopla and RM? That way you won't need to check obsessively.

I had been looking at houses for years, but only properly about 2 years ago. We viewed a few houses, about 5 I think, two we saw twice.
The last one we took my parents to the second viewing to get their opinion. Up to that point they didn't even know we were looking.
On their way home, they drove down the road parallel to theirs and saw a for sale board up, which they phoned and told us about. It wasn't on the internet or the estate agents website so dh phoned them in the morning, got the info. We were first to view two days later and made an asking price offer if none of the other people wanting to view it were allowed to and it was taken off the market. The owners agreed and we have been here 18 months now.
I still look, and although others have come up in our price range, which was very low for what we needed, nothing has been as suitable. I think sometimes these things happen for a reason.
I wouldn't just rely on the internet as some properties just don't seem to come up. Have a look around your chosen areas and streets.

We had this and we super stressed- luckily one suddenly came on the market and we ended up viewing it the next day and had an offer accept a week later! Just stay confident. Everyone always says summer is a bad time to by a house

We have got a second viewing on a house next week but I am worried it's just the best of what's out there and not our dream house, if that makes sense. How do you know?!

I havr found exactly the same - been looking since the new year so nearly 8 months (in that time been interested in three properties that we didn't get) ...

August has been the worst as hardly seen anything worth viewing.

I totally agree with the prices being crazy, there is a newly listed one near me in a poor new build estate that most houses go for 120/140 at 185.. you wonder how the agents convince people to be so unrealistic!

I'm chain free but not a first time buyer, I sold my house and am living back with parents (which was agreed as a short term solution to give us better buying power) been here over a year now (I had an operation that prevented me house hunting for a while) and the better buying power has not worked out that way at all - it's all about the money

I truly hope with everyone that September turns the dire market around and there is something to see

I'm hopeful that a couple I've had my eye on but a little out of our budget will be reduced this week. They've been on for months - clear indication that the price is too high. Good ones where I'm looking get snapped up.
