Built in ovens

We are looking at getting a built in oven and a built in microwave oven grill combination, currently looking at the Siemens models but have seen compact ovens and standard single ovens.

Has anyone regretted buying a compact oven??

I've never bought one, but my first thought was how you get the turkey in at Christmas Grin
Most of the time though, there is a lot of space around whatever I'm cooking when using the oven, and it is an expensive thing to run, so, Christmas aside, it sounds like a sensible idea.

Grin we don’t cook at Christmas, we go out for dinner so maybe I’m worrying over nothing!

My dp says we need a warming draw, I said we never bake Grin

My dp says we need a warming draw

hmm.... I don't even know what one of those is, and I've been adulting for about 35 years now, so I suspect "need" is too strong a word Wink

We had a double oven which died (Neff). DH wanted Miele but they don’t do double ovens so we fitted a wonderful Miele oven with a Sous Chef (warming drawer underneath) the warming drawer is mainly used as a cupboard or resting place for barbecue steaks,

I would rather have had another PROPER oven.

We have a combi microwave/oven, an oven and a warming drawer although discovered that the oven has a proving setting among many other things. Never had a built in tower oven before and love it, would never go back to a range now

BackforGood · 31/08/2018 23:56

Oh.... I've twigged now.
Our new oven has a second oven, which is also the grill (as you'd expect), and you can have it on 'warming' setting, now I think about it. Never used it though in the last year or so we've had it as a feature.

I use these platewarmer thingees to warm plates.

I think he was getting a bit ahead of himself with the drawer! I will rein him in.

I think we have decided to go with the compact as the top section will also be an oven plus microwave and grill so I think we have plenty of space across both.

We were looking at the Neff models too but we are getting a very good deal on these Siemens so would be silly to go with something else which I believe will cost more.

I have two ovens and a combi microwave. I chose two large size ovens over anything fancy with one function because the ovens would sing an opera if I wanted them too! Yes, they warm!

I would recommend a second oven over a warming drawer and get full size. One of mine is actually 90cm wide. I’m not sure anyone makes these now but it’s great. That one is under the hob but the others are eye level. It is easier to see what’s going on at eye level. I never wanted to clean a range cooker!

Can't really comment as having a new kitchen so haven't used the ovens yet but neff are cheaper than Siemens and Bosch cheaper still although they are all the same company if that helps. We are having two warming drawers (dh was totally sold by the kitchen guy) but we are told you can slow cook in them so that appealed to dh for slow roasting meat.

For an average size kitchen a combi microwave and good single oven covers most day to day cooking. If you stack them make sure they are not too high, one should be waist level and the combi about shoulder level.

Newkitchenideas1 · 01/09/2018 10:05

Have brought the Siemens ones this morning online Smile
I didn’t realise a warming drawer slow cooked as well!

We don’t have space really for an additional oven - Looking at them again in photos this morning the oven combi is the biggest and suitable for the cooking we do!

Can’t wait to see it all finished and in place although we now need somewhere to store them and the hob until the kitchen is fitted 🙈

We have a Miele oven plus combi microwave/oven. I needed two ovens, frequently only need to use the smaller oven and this saved space however my 8 and 11 year old children find it difficult to reach into the microwave.

If I was buying a house with a lovely kitchen, a compact oven would be a big issue.
