What is this pipe thing running under the wall in my house?

Hi!

We moved house recently, and I was just examine the side return when I noticed a paving part was wobbly. On closer inspection, I saw a gap on the wall side.

I peered down the small hole, and realise there is some kind of empty space, with an open terracotta coloured pipe (I was using my phone light). The open pipe (its about 30cm wide) seems to be coming from the house and curving round towards the length of the house.

Ive attached a photo of the hole on the outside, but can anyone who knows about structures of houses tell me what this could potentially be?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds like it could be old (hopefully defunct) drainage that has been built over as part of the side return. I’d suggest you contact your sellers and ask, they should know if it is.
