Watford or Harrow???

Hello, We are planning to move from east to west london but we are looking for a mixture of both city and country...Rickmansworth was our priority but we are getting any good size 3 bed houses within our budget of max £475k. What are the other options we can consider in nearby areas which are safe, friendly neighbourhood and with good schools and day cares. We are expecting our baby in Jan 2019. We are not confused between Harrow and Watford as our next option but i really dont feel like moving to crowded area. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated:-)

I worked in Harrow as a police officer whilst living in Watford. Have also lived in Harrow. Both areas have good and bad points.

I now live in Milton Keynes which is an incredible city to live in. It's also only 37 minutes to London Euston on a fast train.

The further we have moved from London the happier we are and the house prices here in MK are fantastic. It's still a great, diverse city too!

I'd also suggest Hemel Hempstead / Leighton Buzzard as an option.

Over 15 years I've watched Harrow turn from a lovely place into something quite different 😕

I think it depends on which area of London you need to reach if you work there. I know St Albans is very expensive

London Colney is great for children, has good motorway links but train from St Albans is very expensive. It depends whether you are relying on the train or not.
London Colney has a small village feel but still very close to London and 10 minute drive from St Albans.

We are relying on train as we both will have to travel to Central London Near Bank station for work. But obviously cant spend too much money on transport :-(

In that case I would not recommend travelling from St Albans. It is extortionate!!

Try Hertford - gorgeous town

Or Welwyn Garden City - both nice towns and great for commuters.

WGC has a better town centre than Hertford. But Hertford has so much for little ones.

There is Elstree and Borehamwood. You can use your oystercard.

Elstree & B’wood are good shouts. B’wood the more affordable neighbourhood of the two, btw...
