Mystery cupboard *with terrible doodle*

Hello!

So I walked into my dining room this morning half asleep when my DD ran past and I jumped out of her way, as I did so the wall moved.

I gave it a prod and a knock and found that it's not a wall at all, but there is something hollow behind a painted piece of wood, which as been made to look like a wall.

We already have an under the stairs pantry, so we have no idea what it could be, but after looking at the living room I can see a decent chunk is being taken up by this mysterious cupboard.

Does anybody have any ideas? I can't seem to find anywhere I can buy original plans online which was suggested to me.

It's a little creepy having a portion of your house you never knew existed before, but I don't want to go tearing down the fake wall to discover a mess.

But why is there a false wall there?
Take it out and reclaim the extra space.

Also, how high up is the hole? The ex wife of the previous owner who was bricked up in there will be slumped on the floor.

HomeOfMyOwn · 28/08/2018 14:38

You need another hole low down and central to see if it is a fire place.

ProcrastinatingPingu · 28/08/2018 14:42

I honestly have no idea why it's there, the hole is where the little pin prick is on the first photo, so about 5'10 off the floor (I'm 5'3 so I had to reach up to cut it out)
Strangely the board at the bottom is flush where as it's at the top it's not.

There is a gap at the top too.

just hang a picture over the hole and see if dh notices.

I ripped out a fireplace once and it wasn't until he fell over the bags of rubble at the front door he even realised what I had done.

The rickety wall would annoy me. I’d take it down and reclaim the additional space.

picklemepopcorn · 28/08/2018 16:04

It may not be possible to remove the wall. Is there anyway of accessing the space from the other side?

ProcrastinatingPingu · 28/08/2018 16:12

I've hung a lovely picture from our wedding in the hope that even if he sees it, he'll remember he loves me. Wink

I don't think so pickle, but after this attempt I think I'll let my dad have a look and see what it may be, he's an ex builder/current roofer so he'll possibly have a good idea on what to do next.

Yay...

Dancer12345 · 28/08/2018 23:17

Anyone else still wanting the whole wall to be ripped down just to double check what’s behind?! Grin

sashh · 29/08/2018 07:51

OK everyone.

Now we have had the disappointing truth, but thank you Pingu can someone put a link to the writing corner, this has got to be a start for some creative writing.

ProcrastinatingPingu · 29/08/2018 08:22

😂 It's getting ripped down in due course, if I find any corpses or treasure I'll be sure to update you all.
