Sorting Artex/slimming ceilings

How much mess does this create? Is it a total nightmare if you've got carpet down and some furniture in the room, or is it doable?

If you are just having the ceiling skimmed then i would just make sure the whole carpet us covered in plastic sheeting - if there is going to be any sanding down of the artex then that would cause more mess. Are you aware that some artex has asbestos in it?

Oh bollocks. Reading this I have realised that our ceilings must have asbestos.

We drilled into it to put light fittings up. I am very worried now.

Do I need to check beforehand about asbestos, or will the plasterer do this? Eek!

We put plasterboards that you can paint straight onto and then a filler tape to the joints, it's much cheaper and less messy.

You can send away for a kit on-line. Ours had very little of the less toxic stuff in it so our decorators were happy to skim over - ours was on the walls as well as the ceiling!!

I used a kit which I sent away and they give you the results - cost about £50 and was very easy.
