Cheap kitchen

I have a very small budget but really need to replace our small kitchen. Does anyone have any advice where I'm best looking for the cheapest kitchen possible which looks contemporary? Thanks

IKEA is your friend

IKEA do a super cheap modular option - it doesn't have the same choice as their standard kitchens but it gets you a functional kitchen very cheaply.

Or it's worth asking if there are any ex-display models in any of the kitchen showrooms near you. You can get units, doors and handles really cheap and you just need to add appliances and new worktops.

They are designed so that any moderately competent diyer should be a able to manage self installing them too - keeping costs down even more.

Do you actually need to replace the units or just the doors? Can you just paint the doors?

Wickes and their ilk sell their store display cabinets on ebay - a mate of mine got a complete one for £150!

I think this is the exception rather than the norm.

@HomeOfMyOwn WOW those modular kitchens are so super cheap!

Are you handy?

serbska they really are. I found them when I was looking at buying a house that didn't have a useable kitchen (literally a sink on metal legs and plumbing for washing machine next to it) but wasn't going to have much left in my budget to do the house up. They are brilliant for the money and are supposed to be really easy to build and install. I've ended up with a different house in the end which has an adequate but dated kitchen - so I'm saving up for a normal IKEA kitchen.
