Reporting a planning issue- confidential?

Can anyone help with this query? If someone reports a planning issue to the local council - eg if they think proper planning permission has not been obtained - is this info confidential or can the planning office reveal who reported the issue?

Not if you don't give your name they can't

The planning officer couldn't tell me who'd made the (baseless) complaint against me.

Thanks for the replies. We have had a letter regarding our garage conversion , and I am very curious as to who brought it to the councils attention! Like the pp it seems to have been a baseless complaint as no pp was required but it is unsettling all the same.
