I know, I know, it already sounds cliche! But it really is our dream!

Would love to move somewhere near Falmouth/Truro area. Any recommended areas to live round this area? We have 3 children, 12, 7 and 5. So would need good choice of primaries and secondaries. My 7 year old has Tourette Syndrome so would love a school that has got a good reputation with SEN. My 12 year old wants to persue art at school so again any recommendations with that side would be great.

We regularly visit Cornwall and always go out of season (feb) which we prefer so am used to it out of summer season. We also currently live in a coastal Somerset town so am slightly used to the busy touristy months here...Although I appreciate will be nothing like the Cornwall crowds!

My husband owns a busy barbershop here and we would be looking at doing the same....does anyone know whether this market is already saturated in either areas or whether there is room for healthy competition? His business is very much the traditional side of barbering.

I think that's all. Any help would be most appreciated.

We looked at the Purbecks, north Cornwall, North Devon. Chose Devon, a very different way of life but fan. Be prepared for a drop in income no matter what you do.

I don't know the area at all, but I am in the process of moving to Cornwall at the moment.

I also love it out of season. I have been there for the last few days and it is so much busier. Our house is away from the tourist hot spot- 5 minutes walk- and it makes all the difference.

I would get as near to the coast as you can. We nearly compromised on this and are very glad we didn't.

Don't buy on 'the spine' as it is much rainier apparently.

Good luck!

Hi OP, I live in Penryn so right next to Falmouth! The whole area is lovely and I recommend it if you can afford it (gone way up on price over the years). We are about to complete a house purchase in Camborne. Ignore those who say to stick only to the coast—you’re never more than 11 miles away from it!
Falmouth has about eleventy billion barbers, so very saturated. But perhaps if it’s more traditional it might do well? Maybe look at Truro or redruth? Or one of the smaller towns/villages around Fal like Constantine, Mawnan Smith etc.
Good schools around there too. Although Redruth/Camborne have very arts focused schools (my daughter is about to start at one)

Ah thanks for this ladies :) LiDL...that's very helpful re Barbers. And also about the schools. My daughter would love to go to a more art focused school. If I may ask, what are the reasons for your move? And are there are any areas I should definitely avoid?

Well, we’ve really enjoyed living in Penryn but have been renting and wanting to buy and have been priced out basically. However I’ve always lived in “scruffier” areas that have become quite interesting and cool (in London, and big cities in Canada) so moving to Camborne doesn’t faze me. There’s some really nice bits, and you get way more for your money. And good schools too from what I’ve heard and seen. You should totally come down, I’ve been happier here than anywhere else I’ve ever lived. You do have to create your own work, or settle for a not so hot wage, but the quality of life can be so high. And the sense of community can be incredible.
