Tell me about your automatic driveway gates

I want to install metal automatic gates at the bottom of my drive, but had abandoned the idea after having been given a quote for over £10k for a basic installation. I quite often get over-quoted, and am finding it hard to believe that everyone with electronic gates have paid this kind of money for them.

Has anyone had any installed, can I cheekily ask roughly how much you paid and if anyone has any recommendations that would be even better.

Giving this a bump because I'm curious. DH wants them, I'm not as keen.

We have electric gates. They were installed when we built the house.
We have sliding wrought Iron gates. We paid about £4,000 8yrs ago. That included fobs, intercom, pillars, etc. We also pay yearly to have them maintained and serviced £150.
Personally I would never have bothered with electric gates, although I did get used to them pretty quickly 😀.

We had existing wrought iron gates automated for about £3k (from memory) about 15 years ago. There was an easily accessible electrical source from an adjacent building though. If they are having to lay cables from a fair distance this will bump the cost up.

Last year, in Central Scotland, I paid around £5k for electric drive gates and a side gate. Side gate is useful for pedestrian access (and the numerous deliveries we get).

I don't have electric gates but a word of warning: They should be fitted by a professional company. They are supposed to be serviced every 12-18 months (if used regularly) due to safety concerns.
