Best short throw projector

I need to buy one for our new house (ideally soon as have a kids sleepover in two weeks' time).
I can't find a good review of what I should buy. Ideally less than £1k, able to project iTunes films or iplayer feed easily. We have a sonos 3 or a Bose SoundLink but not a sound bar.
Will initially be in our white front room, eventually in our studio/guest annexe in garden (once asbestosy garage demolished safely and rebuilt).
I found Optoma GT1080e recommended also BengQ W2000 tho' this seems be be out of stock everywhere. Which mag - I am trialling as need to buy new washer, dryer, hoover etc. etc.- doesn't seem to have a projector review.
Any advice gratefully received. Thank you

We have a benq w2000 and it is really good. I'm not technical but it seems v easy to use. We mainly use it for watching films on Netflix and the kids Mario kart. My husband spent months agonising which to buy and really did his research, if that helps. If you have any specific questions please ask and I'll try and help (or ask my husband!)

Ooh brilliant. Thank you for responding. Also not technical but do you just plug in your Netflix from computer (using HDMI lead?) and do you use the built in speakers?
I will order asap if so. Thank you.

It looks like it is in stock at projectorshop24. I can highly recommend them, we didn't get ours from them BUT we did get our screen and when we had a problem with the delivery due to adverse weather they couldn't have been more helpful.

Yes I think husband just plugs in his laptop or even the tv with an HDMI and off we go. Yes we do use the speakers and it is great.

Great, I was also wondering about from where I should source it as Amazon are out of stock so that is also super helpful. Thank you!

Sorry I can't help more! He's very protective of it and I'm normally sent to make the popcorn while he sets it up! I can ask him anything though if you need any more info.

duriandurian · 20/08/2018 14:06

Ooh if you wouldn't mind asking him if he could screen eg from live sports feed on BBC or virgin media (via laptop?) that would be super helpful if you can. My husband is less bothered about being able to watch Sound of Music on iTunes and more about wanting to watch a rugby match now and again.
I am just v reassured that you have used and liked it. Thanks again.

No problem. Im happy to help, especially if it avoids the months of research and uncertainty that we had! I'll ask him and let you know about the rugby

Oh I'm sure if you asked the guy at projectorshop he'd know, he was really helpful!

We have an optimal which is great. Have had it for a few years. It's connected to a smart bluray player (Netflix, Amazon prime, iPlayer, as well as blue rays) but occasionally hook it up to a laptop for other stuff. Very easy via HDMI cable. Sound sound through the bluray player. We got the projector from Costco because they had a good offer online at the time.

duriandurian · 20/08/2018 14:54

Brilliant. They both sound really good. I'll ring up guy at projector shop and ask his advice (may also ask my SiL if she fancies taking me to Costco on her member's card any time soon).
Thanks very much both of you, I feel a lot more positive about making a good choice than I did this morning. And I managed to book an electrician and woodworm guy for the new house so we will have entz sorted and no electric shocks from unearthed lights(!), nor infestations by the time of DD's sleepover party!

Husband says it will definitely run live sport from a laptop.

Enjoy your projector, there is nothing nicer than a movie night at home!

duriandurian · 20/08/2018 16:57

Thanks! I spoke to projector24 who were really nice. Now just got to measure up space to work out if optoma or benq is best for us.
