Painting Woodstained wood with MSP

Hi all

I've got 1950s plate racks in my living room which I have decided to paint white. They are currently stained with a dark wood stain and probably haven't been touched since the 80s. From decorating the rest of the room I know that there were some nicotine stains in the ceiling which needed a stain block. I forgot about this and started using Bedec MSP and have done one coat in white which now looks quite yellow when dry. Is this just because it's the first coat? Or do you think it's the nicotine staining coming through and needs a stain block? I thought it would be a good idea to paint it myself but now wishing I got in a professional! Advice much appreciated!

I'd just use a Zinsser primer which works as a stain block too then paint with your other paint.
