How would you lay out this house?

Current things we don’t particularly like:

• ‘dining room’ we’re using as a living room - has no windows
• tiny kitchen
• not really using the front room
• downstairs just doesn’t feel very cosy in general (all wooden floors not sure if this is why?)

How would you lay out this house?

Is it yours or do you rent? If it’s yours I would replace kitchen and conservatory with extension and make the whole lot including dining room one big kitchen/ day room. Keeping the living room as it is.

How many people live there? Kids? Sound silly but what do you do? Hobbies, work from home, entertain?

If it was me I’d roof the conservatory and eat there, kids toys in dining and sit in sitting room. But that’s what would suit me.

Knock through that thin wall through kitchen and dining room.
Looks like bit of wall between conservatory, kitchen dining is structural try to reduce in size and put a pillar in, can build a breakfast bar / island round it.

Lounge, knock down wall between hallway and lounge to make larger and bring more light in. Or you could be radical and move kitchen to front of house

I’d make the dining room, kitchen, conservatory into one big open plan room and have the living room as a snug type affair.

Id keep the front lounge as is, make it a really nice cosy living room for evenings.

Open up the back of the house into a large kitchen/dining/sitting room.

Alternatively, kitchen into the dining room portion; table and chairs into the kitchen part (knock a doorway through?), playroom jn the conservatory.

Personally I'd move the stairs to the side downstairs if you can as it cuts through the house now the either remove internal walls and have completely open plan living down stairs or perhaps have an archway through to the front lounge being a more snug area for the evenings perhaps with a door if that works better for you - I'd make the dining area a lovely big kitchen living area with a table to eat off in the conservatory, but a large island perhaps in the kitchen for the less formal food occasions

I'd also make the current kitchen into more of a downstairs loo/utility area
