2 of us after the same rental

We are viewing a property this afternoon that is perfect for us. There is someone else viewing it straight after. We have been told that if we both want it then the landlord will get to choose.

Any tips on how to fight our corner?

I was in this position so I made it clear to the agent that I was willing to pay more. Not MUCH more....another 40 pounds a month. We got it but didn't have to pay the extra.

Be very nice to the agent (they will give their opinion to landlord).

Make sure you highlight all the reasons you are a good tenant.

good tenant = can pay, doesnt smoke, no pets, has run a home before. try those.

Be nice and friendly, talk about your work situation, why you’re moving from where you live now, how your current rental relationship with LL is. Say you want a long-term tenancy and would happily consider a longer contract (if you would).

I was in the same position, though against 5 other people!

The agents narrowed us down and those of us who met the essential criteria were invited to another viewing led by the owners which involved an informal chat with them.

And they picked us!

We were just ourselves. Talked very much about our boring, quiet lifestyle e.g. enjoying going for walks/cycling at the weekend and they liked that I worked full time in a permanent contract (asked quite a bit about my job). DD also charmed them

We got a call that night from the agency to say we'd been picked.

Good luck. Just act excited about the house and reinforce the fact you meet all the essential criteria.
