Kitchen Island in 3.5 x 6 kitchen

We're going to be refitting the kitchen diner in our new house. The room is currently 1/3 'U' shaped kitchen and the rest is a dining room.

The whole thing together is 3.53m x 6m. I'm trying to decide whether a small island with breakfast bar will fit in, or whether to put in a small dining table. Or even whether I could fit both in without it being too cramped!! Help!!

Allow 600mm each side for cabinets - allow 1000-1200mm each side of island for walkway, then see what's left for actual island. Depends which way your U is
If you only have one long run and two short then you might be able to fit an island in. A long skinny one.

I think we're going to take the 'U' out and an L shape. How wide is your average island?!

We had a long kitchen about that size, we had a kind of L shape plus one freestanding cabinet round the corner, (kind of making a J of units) then dining table opposite the long leg of the L so plenty of room around it. Plus small conservatory sofa at the other short end near garden doors.

Tried a lot of designs with a peninsula/ breakfast bar but no room left for table and made the room an obstacle course. It does depend where your doors, windows and routes through the room are.

Most island are one and a half unit width or double unit width ( 900-1200mm )
