British Gas Homecare Renewal Increase of 21%

Our British Gas Homecare Renewal is due in September and it has increased from £371 to £450 so £79.

We have had no repairs - apart from their engineer broke a radiator during the annual service and they replaced it. He snapped the bit where you let air out of the radiator and it couldn't be repaired.

Anyway, it is a huge increase I think and I wondered if anyone had a different policy with another provider that they would recommend?

I negotiated VG down when they whacked the premiums up last year. Get your facts lined up, go online, find something cheaper, ring BG and tell them you're thinking of moving. Chances are they'll drop prices.

It goes up by an extortionate amount every year - but I think they are banking on some people not noticing. We always ring them up and they put it back down with very little hassle. I'd recommend speaking to them.

Right, I will have a go. Thanks.

we had this once. They wacked the premium up by about 50% with no reason. I immediately cancelled, then skipped over to sse for a year before resigning up as a new customer back at the standard price. Crazy! They could have got away with a slight increase and got a bit more from us but instead just took the piss Shock

Just call them and say you are planning to cancel. They’ll probably offer you last year’s price, and if you say no then cheaper again.

Homeserve have been ok, good cashback on joining too, and we swap providers every year to get the best deal. Some home insurance offers this type of cover as an extra, so this year we are doing that. It's less than £50 for the year with cover for plumbing, electric, boiler breakdown etc, but this one particular one doesn't have boiler service option so will pay for that separately, about £100.

whataboutbob · 17/08/2018 21:19

We had problems with homeserve, they just don’t turn up to do the boiler servicing, cancel at last minute etc.

I cancelled my subscription as it was such a lot of money for a what if scenario. I save the equivalent amount into a seperate bank account and it's there if l should need it for anything

Update: I rang and they redued it instantly to £359 which is £12 year lower than it has been this year!!!! Unbelievable. £91 a year instant reduction.
