Composite door - negotiating price

Reese123 · 16/08/2018 11:24

I’ve just received a quote for a Solidor composite door of £2,700. It’s your bog standard door but I have a window above the door, and to either side.

Any tips for how to negotiate the price? I always feel cheeky asking for further discounts especially as he said he’s already given me 40% off. Am going to get two other quotes in the meantime.

Try We Do Doors, there are a couple of other door threads on the go at the moment with suggestions of suppliers.

Does anyone have any advice? Thanks for your time.

Where abouts are you? Godoors are very reasonable. At that price you'll have limited room to negotiate to a reasonable price - even 10% off would still mean it was about £2500 which is expensive for a standard composite door, even with the side window. For reference, my one from godoors with top window in addition to door, was about 850.

Hi Withington, Thanks for your response. I’m based in Croydon and the company you recommended is in Warrington so I think a bit out of the way.

But as you say your door was £850 and mind more than £2k more which does seem expensive

Have a look at Rockdoor.

I did give you advice, We Do Doors operates U.K. wide. Their prices are on the website. My experience with them so far is very positive (the door isn’t actually here yet mind you).

If you’re in Croydon try Swift Windows in Caterham, they might come as far as you are. They are brilliant and did a new composite door, and side window at our old house for £1200

We got ours from we do doors. You customise online and they give a price

Chemenger, thanks i have approached a number of companies and am keen on one but really wanted advice more on negotiating with the price, as didn’t know if it was set or could be negotiated. Just wanted to gage whether other folk have managed to negotiate the price with their chosen supplier.

We had a solidor Ludlow in grey put into a rental with opaque glass and chrome fittings including a door knocker - £1400. It’s very smart. I would expect further work with glass panels to be upwards of £2000. Go to different suppliers for alternative quotes.
Yes, you can try and negotiate. However you don’t want them stalling and putting you at the back of the queue because you are paying less.
