Putting a tumble drier where a shower used to be

We have a downstairs shower room with an 'open' shower (raised tray, long shower curtain, no screen). We never ever use it, but I don't want to rule out using it at some unknown point in the future.

At the moment we have a condensing tumble drier in the kitchen, which I'd like to get into the downstairs bathroom. There's nothing else in there, apart from this shower cubicle.

If I got the water to this shower turned off, and got an electrician in to embed the wire so the electrical risk is dealt with, is there a way of covering over the shower tray so I can stand the tumble drier on it?

Maybe the easiest thing would be to put up a low shelf, strong enough to take the weight of the dryer, above the shower tray? That way it can easily be removed if you ever wish to reinstate the shower. You could also do the same higher up to take the washing machine (or the other way round)?
