How long for comms re offer?

We put an offer in on a house on Weds, and yesterday the ea said they would hope to habe news by the end of next week. Seems a lonb time to me. We've not bought/sold for 16 years.

We have sold our house to a cash seller and we have seen another house that we could buy, but that's "full and final" offers on Tuesday.

Wondering whether we should withdraw the offer Tuesday am, to be able to bid on the other house?

We like them both but would prefer the first one. Wwyd?

That's a long time to wait, is there a reason such as the sellers are on holiday?
I wouldn't like to be hanging on like that, would put me off but if you prefer that house is it worth waiting to hear back?

louiseaaa · 12/08/2018 19:06

If we wait the we will miss the Tuesday deadline for the other property. Seller isn't on holiday, apparently. I guess he's waiting to see if he gets any more offers. Fustrating. We replied within the day when we got offers.

A 'no thanks, too low' response would be all that was needed for your offer, not making you hang on in case they get any higher offers.

If I were in your situation, I'd walk away from this one. I'd tell the EA why plus it's rude. I'd also see if I could view the second house once more to make sure I wanted to offer especially as full and final.

I agree with Berimbolo. This doesn't sound like the type of vendor you want to be dealing with tbh. If you're that keen tell them you need an answer by close of business Monday or you will offer on the other place. Wouldn't put it past this vendor to be the type to still have viewings & look to getting a higher offer even if they do accept your offer though tbh.

That's a long time to wait. I'd be chasing them Monday and saying if you don't have a response by the end of the day you'll pull your offer. Our first offer we accepted straight away. Second offer they put in early Saturday afternoon, we didn't actually know they'd put an offer in until Monday morning (EA had left me a voicemail which I didn't get until after they'd shut due to no signal). We had some back and forth and agreed a final price late afternoon. When we put our offer in we had to chase the EA for an answer - the vendor was abroad and they weren't tying particularly hard to contact her. Once I pushed and they got hold of her it was all done in a couple of hours.

I was kept waiting for 2 weeks! I think the buyer was finding it hard to let go and wanted more money for it - while it was clean it needed a lot of work doing which put a lot of people off.

I agree OP - tell them that you need an answer by the end of the day tomorrow.

We got an offer the first day and we had committed to other viewings at the end of the week so said we would respond by xxx day. It wasn't that the offer was too low in our case, it was just that we only put it online a few hours earlier and wanted to get more viewings in.

Are both houses with the same estate agent?

louiseaaa · 14/08/2018 15:28

Yes. Unfortunately we decided not to offer on the second, due to other location issued

I really feel for you

There is nothing worse than waiting to know.. I'm currently waiting a response on an offer and it's so frustrating/ nerve shredding. Have heard nothing back at all

When I sold I agreed it all that same day, no messing about.
