Loaf vs Made.com

Any advice on the difference? They seem to have the same style profile but Loaf seems pricier and more bespoke.

Any other websites/shops I should be looking at? I'm replacing everything in my house but the priority is a bed as I'm sick of sleeping on a mattress on the floor!

Thanks so much.

Made.com customer service were an absolute disaster when a box containing a third of my side board was lost by the delivery company. I keep seeing they have nice things but would never buy from them again. In a nutshell their response was: you can see from our terms and conditions that we don’t give a shit, so what do you expect?

ArfArfBarf · 10/08/2018 06:28

Haha that the website was automatically turned into a link.
Ps check the lead times before you buy. You could have to wait 12 weeks for the first delivery, then if even a tiny bit is missing they’ll expect you to return what you have an wait another 12 weeks.

We got our spare bedroom furniture from made as they did a special offer on a bundle of matching stuff. That was fine. We also ordered a rug from them. It arrived fully wrapped in plastic but with a random slash in it, which looked like someone had attacked it with a craft knife. We contacted them and they were fine about it, collected it and provided a new one within 2 days. I think loaf looks more expensive, but have no experience there.

sdaisy26 · 10/08/2018 06:47

I have both made & loaf stuff, though mainly accessories from made not big furniture and bigger furniture from loaf (sofas mainly). For me Made is fashionable things at a good price but not necessarily stuff that will last forever eg a lot is flat-packed. Whereas loaf is pricier but more solidly made.

There is a company on fb called something like direct furniture ltd bury st Edmunds that sells a lot of loaf seconds & end of lines.

sdaisy26 · 10/08/2018 06:51

Habitat is the other place I got furniture from for our recent redo. (And good old JL!)

Aridane · 10/08/2018 06:51

I would avoid Loaf, to be honest. I learnt the hard way. Happily though they are collecting and refunding the two sofas I purchased. (Material abraded very quickly on one sofa - ie first use - and couldn’t get seat cushions plumped up on the other). May just have been unlucky though

MoonlightMedicine · 10/08/2018 06:52

We ordered a dining table and chairs from Made. 2/4 chairs have huge aesthetic faults in them, still waiting for replacements 8 weeks on. The table had a huge, obvious watermark on it. They sent a replacement, it was spattered with white paint.

Such a shame as the designs are awesome but the actual products are not good quality from what I see from online reviews. And my own frustrating experience.

PocketFullofMumbles · 10/08/2018 07:03

Similar to Arf, bought a seriously expensive chair and sofa from Made, the castors of which fell apart within weeks. Request for replacement was refused. Gave them another chance with a throw and cushions, which were delayed in the post. Emailed them to ask about returns and was told I couldn’t, as it was over the two week returns period. Absolutely intractable customer service and will never use them again!

Ocies · 10/08/2018 07:07

We have just bought some things from Loaf as we are refurbishing our house. I’m really impressed with the quality and the ordering and delivery process went without any hitches.

closephine85 · 10/08/2018 07:10

Love Loaf, can’t compare with Made as I’ve not bought anything from there, but our two velvet sofas are now 4 years old, have had an embarrassing amount of things split on them and still look amazing and the same shape as the day we got them. We have the soufflé sofas though as I wants to avoid any plumping issues.

I bought a bed from Made. I took the time to get fabric samples prior to placing my order. What arrived was a completely different colour and fabric type to the sample. We decided to keep it anyway as the colour still worked. Also screws were missing so we couldn’t finish assembling in one go. Talking to made was frustrating- zero sense of urgency - and the extra screws took a week to arrive. Be VERY careful about what you order from them.

If you're anywhere remotely near Macclesfield then try arighi bianchi

flippychick · 10/08/2018 07:19

I had a really bad experience with Made. There was an 8 week lead time, but delivery took 12 weeks. Product was faulty. Wouldn't send a replacement until they'd received the faulty item, wouldn't organise a return until I'd emailed photos showing why it was faulty.

Replacement took further 12 weeks and was the same faulty product. Refund wasn't automatically triggered by 2nd return and had to chase them for weeks for the money they took 6 months previously

hoochymama1 · 10/08/2018 07:23

Oh boy, we ordered a ladder shelf from made and when it came the top was so bent over it was unusable. It was then a nightmare to return, they did not seem to be able to communicate with their carrier. Did eventually return it and am waiting to see if they refund it. Personally I wouldn't buy anything from them again. The stuff looks great and the price is reasonable but returns are problematic.

hoochymama1 · 10/08/2018 07:31

OP, I have had beds from IKEA and JL with no problems Grin

CalonGlas · 10/08/2018 09:17

i would consider Loaf more seriously if I could get past the teeth-itchingly twee catalogue copy. As it is, the brochures tend to get recycled before I've got past page 4 of their seriously oomphingly jolly copy. It's like Johnnie Boden with cushions.

ilovewinterpansies · 10/08/2018 12:00

Wow some bad experiences of Made. Esp @Beetle76 😱 I've bought a few small bits (soft furnishings and bedside tables) but I think I'll pass on the big stuff like beds and sofas - sounds like it could be a lot of hassle.

Am going to the Battersea Loaf showroom tomorrow so let's see what I can find there.

Another request from you lovely knowledgeable people - shutter recommendations? Local to SW London if poss (I'm in Wimbledon).

I recommend Feather & Black for beds.

Beds are one thing where you really don't want to be hanging around for 12 weeks - I managed to arrange mine to be delivered the day after I got the keys to my new flat (and paid for them to put it up and take away the packaging).

MeAndTheMajor · 10/08/2018 14:14

We got our bed from Made without any problem. Yes, there was quite a long lead in time for it to arrive but it was delivered without a hitch and is excellent quality.

Am waiting for a Chest of Drawers from them now and am slightly nervous having read all the other reviews!

hoochymama1 · 10/08/2018 14:18

Hmm shutters..have ordered some from JL, waiting time is 16 weeks for us, due to be fitted a week Tuesday Shock

springmachine · 10/08/2018 16:41

Made is shocking quality and will not last.
Might even arrive looking nothing like the photos

They don't pay their staff well either (so you can't expect much)

tethersend · 10/08/2018 16:47

As sdaisy says, check out Direct Furniture ltd. in bury st Edmunds. I’ve bought two loaf sofas and a bed from there for a 3rd of the price. They have a Facebook page and will email you a stock list on request. Highly recommend them.

Si1ver · 10/08/2018 16:50

I've got some lovely things from made. A sofa, a coffee table and some bedside tables. No issues with damaged stuff or quality.

The worst thing they did to us was deliver the bedside tables a week early to our next door neighbour while we were on holiday. The ndn's weren't thrilled at keeping the boxes for a week.

Iizzyb · 10/08/2018 18:12

Suspect style may be different but Warren Evans beds and service are top dog! I have two and the quality is brilliant. Live in Yorkshire & had Sunday deliveries and they put the beds together for me, really pleasant chaps both times. If I had more bedrooms I would buy more shortly one will have to be sold to make way for a slightly less tasteful cabin bed more suited to a 5yr old!!
