Thought our roof tiles needed replacing, but roofer said to jetwash them and save tiles. They are the originals from 1951, but not cracked or thin. Any thoughts on this?

Have you had a few opinions/quotes because sometimes pressure washing tiles destroys them completely.

When we had out house reroofed we kept the 100year old slates. They werent jet washed though.

A roof should last much longer than 50 years

Is there actually anything wrong with your roof?

We had a load of saved original tiles and they were used to roof the front of a side extension, not jetwashed and matched the old roof perfectly. The rear of the extension had new tiles on as it wasn't on view and they have aged nicely.

All three of our neighbours regularly jet wash theirs - DIY up a ladderConfused All modern 1990s houses. Is this a thing?

@cortex I've barely got time to clean my own bathroom. I'm amazed anyone has time to clean their roof - do they have lives?!

If they are robust concrete tiles they may well be fine. Cheaper to reclaim than buy all new and a better match too!
