Buying a house- when should we have exchange/completion date?

Hi all,

I know all house sales are different etc but just wondering when we should be expecting our exchange/completion date - what’s normal?

We had our offer accepted in mid May, homebuyer’s report done by the end of May and received the list of contents being left behind by the owner 2 weeks ago. DH spoke to the solicitor at the beginning of the week who said there are one or two enquiries left but the searches are back and she wants us to go in to sign things next week.

However, we still haven’t been given any indication of an exchange/completion date. Should we know this by now? After signing documents, how much longer is this likely to drag on for?

Just excited and want to start packing up now!

@Millie Thanks for that and explaining the redemption fee... I started to panic when I read that!

Good to know that it might be easier to go through the Estate Agent. Think I’ll ring both the EA and solicitor tomorrow just to chase up & make sure they know we’re keen to go soon.

@Tomboytown I can't speak for everyone but we don't drag files on for fun you know, we'd rather get the file off our desk and get paid for it ASAP! Admittedly some solicitors are slow/overworked and therefore react to whoever shouts loudest.

I often have clients that are so laid back and not proactive about the process that it's a nightmare pinning them down to an appointment to sign and I have to end up picking a date for them or the file would go on forever Grin
