Completed this morning but vendors still in!

Aargh, I could cry.

Completed and money wasn't received by the vendors solicitors at 9:30am.
We are all ready and waiting, it the eatat agents say they need a few more hours. No chain, and they have somewhere to go, so no idea why.
Is this common? When do we start kicking up a fuss about wanting to go to our house?

The real problem with expecting to do it all on the day of completion is that, if the property isn't empty on possession and the vendors are still struggling to get out, it's likely going to be filthy as well.

SoddingUnicorns · 22/06/2018 15:27

We had this, they dropped one key with EA in the morning, then didn’t vacate until gone 7pm when I marched in and lost my shit after repeatedly and politely asking them to hurry up throughout the day.

It’s a long process, they had weeks to prepare and more than that they had my fucking money and were in my house!

Hope you get it resolved OP, if it’s any consolation the EA and conveyancing solicitor were Shock as they’d never heard of such CFery before.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 15:27

CrochetBelle-not to this extent, given they moved out a week ago and could of been moving there stuff for weeks.

Good grief are they still there? OP I am sure you have but get a deadline set this is madness you legally own the house now. I hope for your sake (particularly with the LO's bday tomorrow) they have left it clean after taking so long!

NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 15:30

Their not there

My parents had this when they completed on a holiday house down south. We arrived at midday to collect the keys and he was still packing up the house. He hadn't used a proper removals van, and was doing shuttle runs to his new place in an estate car. By the time we actually got into the house at 5, he'd left a MOUNTAIN of stuff behind. Rather than spending the day cleaning (and it really needed cleaning), we spent the rest of the evening moving the rest of his crap out onto the drive for him to collect later.
I've never been in a house so dirty. When cleaning the downstairs bathroom, I had to throw 5 cloths in the bin. Each wipe resulted in a brown cloth. Gag.
Hope when you finally get in, you have a much cleaner house to relax in and celebrate your daughter's birthday!

NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 15:32

Yes, they are still there.

Our solicitor was shocked, and rang the other side and estate agents telling them it's not on.

We were ok with giving them the requested two hours extra they needed, but here we are over 5 hours later and they still aren't done. Shock

applesauce1-that's awful!

Aridane · 22/06/2018 15:37

Sounds horribly stressful. Hope you're moved in soon

annandale · 22/06/2018 15:41

They've probably been held up by unscrewing everything.

I was surprised to find curtain rods missing in the last house I bought though I guess it's within the rules, not sure.

My best friend found her vendors had taken the loft ladder.

bakingdemon · 22/06/2018 15:42

Bastards, all. When we bought our place we completed on a Friday but didn't get the keys til Tuesday. Our agent had also sold them their new house and had to go round there to pick up the keys. We weren't moving in straight away as we had big renovation plans, but we were on the phone to our agent and solicitor pretty much hourly until we got the keys. And THEN they let themselves back in at the end of that week to pick up some junk they'd left behind! We should have changed the locks immediately but our buildings put hoardings up soon after. And then one of them called me at 11am on a weekday and said he was outside and could he pick up his post - I pointed out that I was at work, so no, and could he get mail forwarding set up. That was 18 months ago and they never did set up mail forwarding. Just yesterday we got something from the local hospital - we are returning everything to sender.

Good luck OP, and change the locks as soon as you can.

bakingdemon · 22/06/2018 15:43

*buildERS our hoardings up, even

NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 15:44

annandale-well they really are taking all the light fittings and curtains, blinds and poles.
Should of known what they were like when we saw the inventory!

NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 15:46

bakingdemon-CF vendor you had there! Shock
Can't believe they trespassed like that.

OP posts:
NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 15:47

How much is it to change locks? I will get that done asap.

OP posts:
bluerunningshoes · 22/06/2018 15:53

you can change the barrel of the lock yourself quite cheaply.

lock from diy store, screwdriver and youtube tutorials.
locksmith itself would be about 200£ during office hours, incl new lock. much more evenings/weekends

bakingdemon · 22/06/2018 15:54

Yep, right CFs. Actually it was around then that I first started using Mumsnet - seemed like every time I looked online for the latest drama with builders and vendors, someone else had already had the same issue here! It was quite comforting to realise we weren't alone.

ChangeIsHard · 22/06/2018 15:54

You just need to learn patience. Imagine if your bank transfer had been delayed and they were at your door demanding the money immediately. Completion here aims for around lunchtime but since money can take until 4pm to arrive it can be much later. I think you have had a failure of communication. You should have arranged and agreed a time with the estate agents.

OliviaStabler · 22/06/2018 15:59

Just brace yourself that it won't be clean. Accept it and don't be surprised.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 16:00

ChangeIsHard-they have the money. Got it this morning, as confirmed by our solicitors with theirs later on when ours fangs to find out why they hadn't left yet.

I'm pretty patient, but this is turning into something else!

OP posts:
NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 16:01

Rang not fangs!

OP posts:
Jaxhog · 22/06/2018 16:01

they really are taking all the light fittings and curtains, blinds and poles.

We once had vendors who did this. They also left bare wires, and took half the TV arial and the tiles from the downstairs cloakroom. They would have dismantled the wrought Iron stair balustrade, if my DH hadn't stopped them.

Good Luck, and hope your DD has a lovely birthday tomorrow.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 16:03

OliviaStabler-yes, I'm kind of worried about what to expect now.

I've awful visions in my head after reading everyone's horror stories.

Trying to weigh up if a shit in a fridge is more bareable than someone's toenail clippings Grin

OP posts:
ChangeIsHard · 22/06/2018 16:03

I know they have the money...but you should have arranged a completion time. Just because the money comes in at 9:30 doesn't mean you can just occupy it immediately. Have some courtesy.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 22/06/2018 16:05

Bearable even.

Someone pass the Wine
