Completed this morning but vendors still in!

Aargh, I could cry.

Completed and money wasn't received by the vendors solicitors at 9:30am.
We are all ready and waiting, it the eatat agents say they need a few more hours. No chain, and they have somewhere to go, so no idea why.
Is this common? When do we start kicking up a fuss about wanting to go to our house?

And I'm amazed at the people who have all this time to allow fannying faffers to dick about. The first time I bought a house it was a Wednesday. We had taken one day of annual leave for it. Friends came over after work to help us move in, given up their evening to help out. But we had to go to work the next day.

Fridaygap · 22/06/2018 20:00

Very glad to hear you're in! Shame it's filthy though. Congratulations all the same.

ellesbellesxxx · 22/06/2018 20:03

Op this is awful... we were told by removals company, solicitors AND agents that “gentleman’s agreement” is lunchtime agreement.
We completed at 11, our removals had already taken everything and we were finishing the final cleaning. By 1115 we were out.. waited an hour and a half for our keys but that was still lunchtime! Hope tomorrow is fun :)

MaverickSnoopy · 22/06/2018 20:03

If you can bear the wait I would honestly arrange an end of tenancy type clean. We had one when we moved out of our house (for the old and new) and it was worth every penny. Only downside as it's now the weekend so I doubt you'll get anyone tomorrow.

Failingat40 · 22/06/2018 20:08

7:30 and we finally got in!! Vendors lobbed the keys at us and drove off. Nice.
House is filthy. The oven is so rank
No shits in the fridge or toe nail clippings though, so that's good.

Goodness, how rude of them!

Can you film/photograph the filth they've left and upload it on Facebook?

People like them need publicly shamed.

Good luck in your new home

GabsAlot · 22/06/2018 20:18

gr4eat news op shame its filthy but enjoy your new home

BarryTheKestrel · 22/06/2018 20:28

Takeaway, bed, tv and kettle set up. Relax in your new home. Get ready for a busy weekend with an early start instead. If the house is rank you'll have to clean before you unpack so may as well chill out first after the stress of today!

NoFucksImAQueen · 22/06/2018 21:43

I'm a bit confused about all this, at no point when they were sticking their fingers up at your in laws or at any point during the day did you ask them what they were playing at?

Jb291 · 22/06/2018 22:21

Hope you're settled in a bed OP after a well deserved takeaway. Sorry the house is filthy. Try to get a good nights sleep and then roll your sleeves up to begin cleaning in the morning. If the oven is absolutely rank then a professional clean by a company like ovenu might be worth it to get it sparkling.

OliviaStabler · 22/06/2018 22:35

Exceptionally unwise with aggressive people like that. Best not to engage at all.

NoFucksImAQueen · 23/06/2018 00:06

well I couldn't just sit there and wait 7 and a half hours to move in to my house and say nothing if it were me Olivia.
presumably op has met them at some point when she viewed or has at least had slight contact through solicitors and estate agents through this process to have some indication of them being nightmare sellers. since she hasn't said they seemed it I'm assuming they were fine, in which case if someone I was buying a house off was swearing at me I'd be shocked and asking them why

KitKat1985 · 23/06/2018 08:12

What dicks OP. You have my every sympathy. As I said upthread we had a very similar experience a couple of months ago with our vendor still clearing out at 5pm and being quite hostile to us (no idea why, we had paid the asking price and been 'easy' buyers and hadn't given the vendor any hassle). She also was moving into a vacant property so no idea why she left it so late to start moving out. I found it all quite upsetting having been looking forward to moving day for weeks, and having two young children who needed to get to bed at the end of the day.

Give the house a good clean and try to forget about them. It's all yours now. Cake Wine And burn any post you receive for them

SoddingUnicorns · 23/06/2018 08:18

OP contact your solicitor and a professional cleaning company in the morning, and get money back from the vendors for anything that is beyond repair and the cleaning bill.

Dicks.

babyno5 · 23/06/2018 17:35

I feel stabby for you OP! Our buyers here proper “see you next tuesdays” on our last house buy. We were completing I. A Friday and their sodding finances weren’t sorted, money didn’t hit the bank and at 5pm on moving day I’m sat outside our new house in tears with an army of removal men. MY children were all farmed out to friends and family. Thankfully our vendors told estate agents to give us the keys and we’d sort it out on the Monday! We didn’t let our buyers in until Monday though-fuckwits they were!!
I hate moving !!

user1485851222 · 23/06/2018 17:47

Years ago, we exchanged in the morning, was told the keys were ours from 1pm. 3.30pm we were sat outside the new house waiting to get in. They hadn't even loaded their van. At 4.30 we walked in, helped them load, our removal guys helped them as well, also gave advice on how to pack their van, as they were doing it themselves. One of our removal guys had to leave as he had a date and didn't expect to be at work after 5pm. They got in their van, left, never said thanks or offered the removal guys any money for a drink.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 23/06/2018 18:09

For our last move we had three little kids and I was heavily pregnant, so we decided to opt for the removal firm to pack our stuff.

We had a lot of stuff, tons of toys, books, gardening stuff, a garage full of motorbike bits and we ran our business from home. The removals guy looked around and cheerfully told me it would take a couple of hours to pack. I was a bit sceptical, but figured he was the professional.

Come removal day it took us until four or so to pack and load the van, and that was with DH and me full on helping. There was no room in the massive van for the garage stuff so that had to come the following day.

The removal guys were lovely but very pissed off with their boss who had done the estimating. We bought everyone fish and chips for lunch, provided loads of snacks and tea and the kids were in full on charming mode.

Though there was nearly a mutiny when they realised our new house had three storeys and their boss hadn't warned them.

Fortunately our buyers were taking another month or so to complete and move in so we were okay going back the next day to clean and stuff. (In the event buyers borrowed our spare keys to measure up and sneakily moved in before completion, but that's another CF story).

manicmij · 23/06/2018 19:03

Anytime moving have always been given untl 12 midday to move out.
Sometimes manage well before this and let buyer know or estate agent.
Should have been stated in your contract.

Doofletch · 23/06/2018 19:57

When we bought our house 2 years ago the completion time was set for 12. Estate agent called at 10 to say money was in but we couldn't have the keys yet as sellers were moving that morning.
We picked them up at 12 but were told they were still loading and needed another couple of hours. Luckily we were coming out of a rental with a bit of an overlap so it wasn't a problem as our movers were booked for the following day. Didn't stop me getting irritated when they didn't leave til gone 3! You understand there can be delays but I REALLY wanted in!
Hope all went well for your daughter's birthday in your new home today OP.

Baaba · 23/06/2018 20:16

Lunchtime rule is made up, only ever heard this on mnet. Emptying House, cleaning etc should all be done by day before you're moving. It's common for movers to pack everything onto the van the day before so you are packing essentials and bed in the morning. I'd be kicking up a fuss, wire transfer is instant, house is yours!

PeppermintPasty · 23/06/2018 20:34

That is just not correct, not in England and Wales.

Housemum · 23/06/2018 21:51

This website explains the lunchtime convention rather than rule well - ie if the money is received at 9.30 doesn’t mean you automatically can move in at 9.30, but penalties if can’t complete on the actual day at all.

offupop · 23/06/2018 21:53

@baaba that's bollox. You don't pack the van the day before in 99% of moves as the removal company are packing and moving someone else! You can't clean until half the stuff is out. Sometimes money goes through an sometimes pm.
You pack your belongings in a van you're not insured unless you're paying through the nose for removals.
Lunch time is the general rule.

SluttyButty · 23/06/2018 22:16

Baaba our last two moves the removals vans turned up at 10am on the day of the move just as we'd booked. We weren't paying for overnight storage and associated insurance on it. Removals costs enough as it is without paying more.

ScrubTheDecks · 23/06/2018 22:19

I have sold and bought 4 times and the removal company have never packed the van tne day before.

Though if there is a long journey they seem to pack early on completion day, get everything out by lunchtime and then drive to the new house. Leave the van there overnight and unpack early the next morning before druvjng back.

Every time I have done it the money has changed hands about lunchtime.

bridgetosomewhere · 23/06/2018 22:47

When we bought our first house we arrived with our stuff and found the vendors son was still in bed!
They literally hadn’t packed anything. TV was still plugged in along with Christmas tree with presents around it!

They had been let down by a friend who had the van but it was like they hadn’t realised they needed to move out!

We ended up having to put our stuff in one room, empty their house into our van and move them to their new house. What a bloody long day that was.

The vendor then complained when we dropped her bedding as she wanted it for that night....

Thanks love!
