Hello

I want to update a lampshade myself.

I want to use some crushed velvet fabric I bought from The Range.

Will it be OK?

I'm worried incase it catches fire Hmm

Do I need to spray it with a fire retardant spray first?

Thank you xx

I think your main issue will be that velvet tends to be very thick and it won't let much light through! Shades tend to be made from cotton or lightweight fabrics so they don't block all the light entirely. Have you tried 'wrapping' the new velvet around a shade to see what the effect is?

Don't use bulbs that get so hot.

The fabric wouldn't be touching the bulb anyway and a more energy efficient bulb will be better for your bills and the environment.

Hello

Oh, I havent seen how much light wwould get through Blush

Oh yes, an energy efficient bulb - hadn't thought of that either.

I was just brainstorming last night.

Thank you for the tips.

xx
