catquest glad you came to a decision you're happy with. I have hated making so many decisions and something like that brick decision would have had me wobbling for ages!
threesocks Your flooring looks beautiful. How fabulous!
The weeks seem to be spinning so quickly towards Christmas don't they Shock

Has anyone else had the situation where you go to different companies/independent fitters and they all say totally different things? We are having such a nightmare with our kitchen flooring, over the underfloor heating system.
Some have said to lay 6mm ply over, then karndean on top of that, we've had one say 9mm or maybe 12mm, then one say 18 or maybe 22mm. Got someone coming tomorrow to hopefully get it sorted as our kitchen arrives on Tuesday and the fitter is booked in for the Thursday. I doubt the flooring will get put down before then.
I'm hoping this won't matter too much. I am not enjoying these last few weeks at all.
Most of our builders have been moved onto a new job, as we only really have bits and pieces left for them to complete. The house feels a bit odd without them all.
I am also shitting myself that I won't be happy with the kitchen once it's here!! It seems so long ago that we ordered it. Although anything would seem heavenly compared to what we have put up with for the last 7 months!
Hope everyone is hanging on in there.

Threesocks · 16/11/2018 06:28

@bobkate it's so frustrating when you can't get a clear decision. Fingers crossed you get sorted. Can't wait to see the kitchen!!

Whattodowithaminute · 16/11/2018 16:41

Kitchen installation planned to start today. Here’s what it looked like this morning

@Whattodowithaminute - Wow! That space is amazing!!

2 more windows in today, so now just waiting for the 2 sets of french doors which are due next week. Plastering nearly finished in extension and screed floor going down next week. Wood flooring nearly done in the second room too. It's been an exhausting week, but it is feeling like it's all starting to come together.

bobkate · 16/11/2018 21:24

How did it go today whattodo? So exciting! Our flooring bloke failed to turn up today so we're totally losing the plot Sad.

Threesocks · 17/11/2018 06:14

Oh no @bobkate that's so frustrating 😡

Whattodowithaminute · 17/11/2018 07:47

Ahhh bobkate that’s so annoying-did they provide any explanation?
Sounds like you are making great progress threesocks
They placed the kitchen units broadly in the right places yesterday but I wasn’t there to get a feel of how the space will work. Itching to go again but we are visiting friends this weekend an I’m on a conference on Monday... Tuesday it will be! Good luck with ongoing works... keep going the end is in sight!

DustandRubble · 17/11/2018 16:29

The space is amazing whattodo. So big & open.

How frustrating @bobkate 😩 tradesmen drive me bonkers

@Whattodowithaminute it's looking amazing! Hopefully similar to what we're aiming for.

BirdyandBee · 22/11/2018 16:33

I was so excited this morning because our doors were being fitted... were 😩
The fitters called in sick so they couldn’t do them!
I’ve made them commit to fitting them tomorrow, our extension is pretty much done we’re just waiting for them to go in, then I can turn the rads on to dry out the plaster and start decorating!
Fingers crossed for tomorrow 🤞

Whattodowithaminute · 22/11/2018 19:35

birdy that’s really disappointing... fingers crossed for tomorrow though. We were supposed to have our scratched glass replaced tomorrow but they forgot to order the replacement-so annoying.
Kitchen being installed, floors being stripped and decorating ongoing. Second fix plumbing and electrics all starting too.... coming together but still so much to do!!

SpaceBergerac · 22/11/2018 20:16

Oh no birdy, that must be so frustrating when you're close to finishing!
whattodo that sounds like good progress, hope the replacement glass doesn't take too long. The photos look amazing, what a space!

Well we're coming along, got walls and a roof, floor joists going in, but up til now it's all been on the other side of our French doors, so not too chaotic. All change today: current kitchen about to be ripped out, and French doors unexpectedly removed today as they needed to remove slab underneath them for fitting the joists. So it's boarded up now and bloody freezing! All seems to be going well though, and I think I've finally ordered everything that needed ordering and can stop compulsively checking my spreadsheet. Stuff is starting to pile up too, tiles and dishwasher arrived today, all the dining chairs and houseplants are now stored up in DS's room, luckily he thinks it's hilarious! No idea where the fridge freezer will go when that arrives next week...

BirdyandBee · 23/11/2018 18:21

My doors were installed today! We’re finally weatherproof! Only ine more week left, then it’s time to decorate 😩

Looking good birdyandbee

Whyisitsodifficult · 23/11/2018 21:46

Ooh love those! Are they bifold or sliding? Can I ask where you bought them from?

BirdyandBee · 23/11/2018 22:41

@whyisitsodifficult they’re slide and pivot doors, so they sort of do both! I have a video on my instagram search #westextension and you’ll see all of our progress!

bobkate · 24/11/2018 13:50

Oh birdy...they look amazing!!

4yearsnosleep · 24/11/2018 14:17

They're gorgeous birdie!

Whyisitsodifficult · 24/11/2018 22:17

birdyandbee thanks I had a look and they look great. I’d not heard of them before. Are you pleased with them? They look like they manoeuvre easily. How did you find dealing with this company?

BirdyandBee · 24/11/2018 22:57

Thanks, I’m dead chuffed with them!

@whyisitsodifficult The company were very good to deal with, responded to emails very quickly and send their own surveyors out to measure up. Took the estimated time to make. They told me the wrong date for installation (they told me tuesday when it should have been thursday) then on thursday their fitters called in sick and sent me an email to say installation was cancelled. I got them to install them the next day instead. Installation went smoothly.
They slide smooth-ish, I’m hoping it’s the weather or something and they’ll get a little easier when it warms up. They’re obviously not difficult to slide but there is some room for improvement When I tried ID Systems system at a Homebuilding show they were so smooth and easier to slide (but were twice the price!)

Whattodowithaminute · 01/12/2018 09:46

Really happy with how my wooden floors have come up. Still a lot to do-the utility room still isn’t tiled and we are moving in on the 13th... a busy couple of weeks!! Good luck all

Whattodowithaminute · 01/12/2018 21:47

Front room looks good threesocks love the blue walls.

bobkate · 01/12/2018 22:50

Fabulous room whattodo
We are finally in, everything out of storage, but the house is now even more chaotic!
Builders have pretty much finished, although a fair amount of electric stuff to complete. Our kitchen is in the room..just not installed Sad Due to various delays from the underfloor heating, door and window people totally messing us around we lost the slot for the kitchen fitter. He now can't come until the 10th, which means we probably won't get our worktops fitted until after Christmas SadSad hey ho. We have carpets and heating so it's not all bad!
I can't get over how many things I would do differently were we to do this again, although I'm not sure I would ever do this again!!
Hope everyone else is doing okay. Can't believe we're in December already. I dont feel at all Christmassy!
