left hand photo are the bricks that are the same size. Right hand are slightly smaller.

I keep changing my mind

Whattodowithaminute · 10/11/2018 17:09

I prefer the size and colour of the left hand side ones.

Threesocks · 10/11/2018 19:46

I vote left aswell!

Baxdream · 11/11/2018 07:28

How much brick have you got? Ie is it a rear extension where you won't really notice or a side extension where it'll obviously be a different colour?

We rendered ours but you do save on bricks as you just use the breeze blocks

Catquest1 · 11/11/2018 09:08

Baxdream the extension is entirely to the side of the house and we are the last house in our road so the side elevation is very much on show.

Last quote we had for rendering the whole house was 5k+ and i guess if we were going to do the extension we should really do the whole house

Catquest1 · 11/11/2018 09:35

Although we could do the front elevation and side elevation and leave the back ....... but then we might aswell do the whole lot.

Sigh. I hate big decisions!

DustandRubble · 11/11/2018 10:02

I prefer the smaller ones that are a closer colour match. It's hard to picture what it will look like at the end though.

Same as us. We rendered the whole lot for that exact reason.
In fairness you could get the same size bricks, see how they age. If in 5 years it still looks a bit odd, you could render then?
I actually prefer the yellow bricks but I agree with the others that they'd need to be the same size

4yearsnosleep · 11/11/2018 17:59

I'm sure I saw an Ugly House to Lovely House where they stained the bricks to change the shade. Might be a more cost effective option? We're contrasting our extension and cladding it so it contrasts against the Cotswold stone which could be another option?

BirdyandBee · 11/11/2018 22:39

Wahoo Dust! I love it when it’s plastered it’s totally transformed!
I just can’t wait to get the windows and doors in!

Catquest1 · 13/11/2018 07:21

Going with bigger bricks and getting them colour tinted!!!!

BirdyandBee · 13/11/2018 21:29

@threesocks super duper exciting
@whattodowithaminute you’ll get a fab idea of the floor space then, it will look massive!

Whattodowithaminute · 14/11/2018 18:10

Sounds like a really good solution catquest living the lights birdyandbee

We have a floor-takes a few days to harden off but gives a great perspective on the space.Kitchen installation starts next week-hopefully!

Threesocks · 14/11/2018 18:22

Good to hear everyone is moving forwards.
@Catquest1 - sounds like a good decision to me!

@BirdyandBee - love the lights (and the lantern)

@Whattodowithaminute - yay to floors.

Today has been beyond crazy here - electrician in doing second fix in some rooms. Plumber doing first fix in extension, floor screeded in boot room, plaster boarding nearly finished and wood flooring delivered!! I am starting to believe we might be sorted for Xmas 🙈😁🙈

PostNotInHaste · 14/11/2018 18:28

Great progress by everyone ! We have a floor that drying off too. Hopefully end of the week the roof carpentry will be done and roof tiles can go on- currently most of them on someone’s else roof but hopefully can pick up at weekend.

Did hit a bit of a low at the weekend with water pouring into downstairs when it rained but today can get a really good idea of bedroom and living room which is great.

BirdyandBee · 14/11/2018 23:04

Everybody’s extensions are going so well! I’m hoping everyones timelines are good too. We should definitely be in before xmas, although it looks like I’m going to be decorating it 😩
Nannys windows and doors were fitted today- hurrah

Threesocks · 15/11/2018 18:05

@PostNotInHaste fingers crossed you get the roof on soon, at least the weather seems to be staying mild at the moment (or at least it is where I am)

@BirdyandBee lovely doors!

Wood flooring started going down today and I am so please with it! Plastering in the extension is cracking on and the final windows are coming tomorrow. Just waiting for the 2 sets of french doors to come next week and we will be properly water tight, rather than just boarded over!

PostNotInHaste · 15/11/2018 18:35

Thanks Threesocks, lovely picture and it’s looking great. Hopefully a turning point today, all the roofing felt and battens on as far as we can see (was dark when he went).

Catquest1 · 15/11/2018 19:15

Oooo Threesocks that flooring is lovely!!

We have had a bricks delivery and concrete coming tomorrow for downstairs base then next week builder reckons we will start to stuff going up. It was too dark for me to see the bricks tonight but apparently rhey colour tint them once in place. I'm happy that we have made probably the best decision over the bricks, i might go for rendering in the future but the big sway factor was that in our road none of the other houses have been rendered (only the bungalows) and we might stick out like a sore thumb (we are in quite a prominant position). And as much as i love the country cottage look, sometimes you just have to embrace your 1970s house anr road!

Builder is happy that their worst bit of moving and relaying the drains is done and plumber is booked for end of January. By the time we move everyone round bedroom wise in the house it will probably be Easter but im amazed at how far weve come in 2 weeks!!!

Threesocks · 15/11/2018 19:17

@Catquest1 great news - so glad your builder is cracking on nicely. Fingers crossed you have smooth process!!

Threesocks · 15/11/2018 19:18

@PostNotInHaste thanks - roofing felt basically means you are protected from. OST weather so sounds like great progress.

PostNotInHaste · 15/11/2018 19:44

The colour tinting sounds like a very sensible plan Catquest, exciting times. Threesocks* that is very much what we’re hoping about the weather Grin
