Changing exterior of an ugly house?

Has anyone had experience of changing the exterior/facade of an ugly house?

I’ve recently viewed a house. It is about 15 years old and was “designed” and built by the vendor...

It is in a fabulous location, a good size, lovely garden, but the exterior is not at all attractive (it also needs updating inside).

It has been on the market for a while, as there is zero curb appeal and it is on a really lovely street with attractive neighbouring properties.

Any suggestions for companies that specialise in redoing the facade of a property? Also has anyone done this type of project recently? Many thanks :)

Are you able to post a pic of the outside so we can advise if there's anything you can do yourself?

We have just rendered the front of our house. It has made it a lot nicer looking. I think changing windows helps as well. We also lengthened a bay window to make it less squat. Changing the front door has also helped. Any local builder should be able to do this work for less than £10k. Good luck (oh and look on Pinterest for inspiration by searching under external renovations).

I've not used them but have seen a company called Cidral who specialise in exteriors. There us a huge amount you can do to change the outside of a house, just depends on budget.

There used to be a tv program on c4 with george clark about this sort of thing.

There are a few and I can't find them in my bookmarks, but the Sunday Times did a feature in the Home section that mentioned three or four. We improved the appearance of our house no end by removing the pebbledash and replastering it smooth.

Every other less than attractive house round our way has been rendered white, with a bit of wooden cladding on one side and grey windows. they look very nice, though i do wonder if it'll be the stone cladding of the late 2010s

We're doing it gradually. House is a large 1950s boxy design. We have painted the exterior a vey pale grey, are changing windows and doors, have changed the garage door and we are taking down the tiny open porch and replacing with a large American style front porch which goes gable to gable. I spent a lot of time looking at the backtofront website linked to above.

We replaced windows and doors, rendered the front and replaced the drive, and put out massive pots with trees in them. People were unable to find our house because it looked so different!
