What type of paint can I use to paint this?

I have this storage box in the bathroom for towels. I've taken the paint off the lid by stupidly dropping a cotton pad with nail varnish remover on it. Coldswold company can't sell me any of the paint (which has a lacquer finish) so I though i would paint the lid dark grey.

Any ideas please what type of paint to use she what prep I would need to do? This is my first diy project.

I'd give it a light sand so there's no noticeable lip around the area you've stripped the paint from and at least one coat of a Zinsser primer suitable for painted wood - this will ensure your top coat goes on and stays on smoothly. For a bathroom I'd use satinwood, eggshell or satin finish furniture paint like Rustoleum. I used Rustoleum Furniture Paint to match a small wall cupboard to our new cabinets and to paint a dark wood fire surround and pantry shelves. I'm impressed by how durable it is.
