Can you double slat fence on the good side?

I really want to double slat our garden fence to get a bit more privacy - our neighbors are fine but we’re in a new build so if neighbors are out on their patio at same time as as I feel very exposed and would like that extra bit of privacy.

We paid to put the fence up in this section of garden (neighbors promised to half for it but then said they couldn’t afford). We put the fence posts in early as we were getting astro turf put down so posts needed to go in before the groundwork was done. Annoyingly, neighbours then built decking which they attached to our posts meaning fence had to go on with the rails at their side.

We were going to ask them if they are happy for us to double slat at their side - I don’t forsee any issues but because of the decking I think it could be quite awkward to do as the way they’ve installed it means that while their garden is now level, the fence height on their side goes from 6ft down to about 4ft.

I wondered if it’s possible and possibly easier to do something at our side I
I.e attach a couple of rails and attach slats to this? Or wound that be too much weight? We can’t put more posts up on our side due to patio/astro turf.
