So from my Googling, it seems like gloss is out. Can anyone recommend a decent eggshell please? I believe that is a kind that won't go yellow?

We had a good result with Ronseal Stays White:

We were sick of paint yellowing within just a few months (it's not so bad if the painted area gets direct sunlight) so went for one that was guaranteed to stay white. Very happy with the satiny finish too.

A stainwood is good or eggshell. Eggshell is gorgeous but more exoensive

Sorry didn't read your post properly, you are already on the case for an eggshell.

We've got little greene intelligent eggshell. It's a little pricier, but I'm hoping it's good, and we won't have to redo it for a long time.
