Bedford - thinking of moving from Letchworth... what is it like?

Hi I’m new here, I am thinking of moving to Worcester road MK42 in Bedford. I have two daughters both aged 6 and a baby on the way.
If anyone here has lived in Bedford and has experience with schools and in general if it’s a safe area I would love to know. Thank you

I grew up in Bedford and went back there when I got married then moved out to Northamptonshire a few years ago.

It’s okay but the areas north of the river are nicer/more desirable than south of the river. There are loads good restaurants in the town centre. In terms of schools the whole of Bedford borough is in a period of transition at the moment as they’re moving from 3 tier to 2 tier. So it’s really hard to know which schools are better than others! When we lived in Bedford we chose to send our kids to school in the north Beds villages because we didn’t like the schools in town. However, it has always been the case that the schools on the north of the town are more “successful” (going on results alone which doesn’t tell you much).

I much prefer where we live now and have no plans to ever go back!
