Hi everyone saw an earlier thread that went amazingly well for a hiusebuyer with suggestions for areas. So here's my cheeky attempt at it...
Living in Cardiff, planning to have kids, don't want to be more then 30 mins from city centre, need a good sized garden the bigger the better, and all for 300k max. All suggestions for areas and houses welcome.

I'll see what I can find out!

Thanks BishopstonFaffing.

Close to Cardiff I would suggest Pontprennau, Whitchurch or Thornhill. Fairwater, Canton, Ely etc. are not nice places for families...

If you're happy to be a bit further out how about St Mellons/Coedkernew/Bassaleg way?

If you don't mind being even further out (40 minutes roughly) your money will go further in Cwmbran/Pontypool for large houses and gardens:

thanks for the ideas Unihorn.
Me and dh now have the struggle of deciding, do we want to look at Newport, which is quite nice and a bit cheaper then cardiff, but not in cardiff, which we love.
Or penarth and the llandough area.
Or go up north Cardiff - however sometimes feels a bit soulless to us.

PiggyPoos · 18/03/2018 17:32

North cardiff can be but there is stuff to do in Roath & withchurch and heath is not so far from roath & the facilities there.

So it's not so bad.

PiggyPoos · 18/03/2018 17:34

If you want to be near pubs restaurants and parks and schools that are ok, bits of heath Rhiwbina Birchgrove or Whitchurch would be loads better for you than say pontprennau or thornhill.

lostjanni · 18/03/2018 17:48

Piggypoos, yes we do want to be near some good pubs and resturants and stuff to do, we're looking at penarth as that has some nice places and is an easy commute into central cardiff, however obviously it's expensive.
We're also looking at the possibility of looking at Newport, but feel this may be a bit soulless compared to cardiff.

Penarth is nice, the drive into Cardiff in the morning I think would be a bugger. Maybe train?

Tbh I would stick with Cardiff if you think you'll miss it, you can get a decent place with your budget in a nice area.

lostjanni · 19/03/2018 09:49

PiggyPoos, we do love Cardiff and would like to stay there but penarth is said to have amazing schools.

How about this in Coity? Very close to the M4, nearby amenities, really good schools. Also very close to the POW Hospital and Glanrhyd Hospital.

I'm not sure how far £300k would go in Cardiff if you want a nice area, a big garden, and a decent primary as well as 4 bedrooms. You might have to settle for 3 bedrooms or a small garden.

lostjanni · 19/03/2018 14:37

scrabbler3, we culd settle for 3 bedrooms, if all doubles, aslong as we had a good garden.

Well we've made some large compromises on what we want and I mean large however we put in a very cheeky offer of 250k and it was accepted!
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71590358.html

Couldn't be happier as we know have 50k to do it up to our standards. Also DH just got a promotion with a 25k a year extra salary!!!! So we can easily afford now to 're do the house how we want.
I know this is a bit of a u turn but realised we love living close to the centre, our friends and easy quick transport and would rather sacrifice garden and bedrooms for tjis. Thanks for all the help.

Oooh nice! You've bagged yourself a bargain there.

CottonSock · 22/03/2018 19:54

Congrats. That house is a tardis

lostjanni · 22/03/2018 21:59

Thanks guys. Bargain indeed. Plenty room to renovate.

Plan is turn lobby into a lovely utility mud room style place. Conservatory will have a solid roof put on. Having the loft room as the master. And bedroom 3 as a store room.

Congratulations! That's a really good price I've seen some houses for sale the same on that street that have been renovated & looked lovely.
