Hi everyone saw an earlier thread that went amazingly well for a hiusebuyer with suggestions for areas. So here's my cheeky attempt at it...
Living in Cardiff, planning to have kids, don't want to be more then 30 mins from city centre, need a good sized garden the bigger the better, and all for 300k max. All suggestions for areas and houses welcome.

I think there is a shortage of Welsh medium places in Canton, with a lot of families opting for ysgol treganna. I'd check distances but it's supposed to be a nice school and I generally hear positive things (same of most of the Welsh schools).

Thanks cottonsock. Buying a house is so hard 😂. Wanting city living, garden, spacious house with only 300k

I grew up in the country too, but love Cardiff now :)
It's a very green and friendly city. Good access to beautiful places

CottonSock · 17/03/2018 19:12

What about Barry? It's had massive investment, or Llantrisant area?

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 19:14

Will have a gander cottonsock. Same grew up country, Cardiff for uni, fell in love with City, put up with now DH. 😂😂

To be honest the market looks very sparse

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 19:56

I agree not a lot of stuff on for 300k with a big garden. But penarth is like a dream land 😂😂

Any other suggestions for cardiff

Skippetydoodah · 17/03/2018 21:17

Would you consider Newport OP? Train is max 15 minutes into Cardiff Central. We recently moved here from Cardiff and you get SO much more for your money.

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 21:33

Skippetydoodah now that could be something we could do. Is Newport quite lively/ good shopping? Also how much would 300k get us? Also 15 mins train is amazing that is what you get from whitchurch.

Town centre is a bit rough tbh but there are some decent bars and restaurants. We used to live on the outskirts of Cardiff and it used to take me longer to get to work than it does now.

This is 10 mins from the train station and in a nice road

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 21:54

Lovely that would be like 400k in cardiff. Nth you are persuading me and when I think about it a 25 min commute is not too bad. I could even maybe move work to newport. Do you do all your shopping in Cardiff then skippetydoodah?

OP posts:
Skippetydoodah · 17/03/2018 22:08

City centre has H&M, New Look, Debenhams, Next, Top Shop, Schuh, Tiger etc.and an M&S Food! Friars Walk has a Starbucks, Wagamama, Las Iguanas, Prezzo and Bistrot Pierre ( I think off the top of my head!). So lots of chains, and out of town we have all the big supermarkets. Also some lovely parks - Bellevue, Tredegar Park and Tredegar House.

I wouldn't want to drive to Cardiff every day tbh as the traffic can be awful but if you're waking distance from the train station at both ends then it's worth a look.

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 22:10

Yes I work in the hospital in Cardiff, so could do a speedy walk. That sounds adequate for little shopping and then train trips for bigger fancy shops. Newport is cheaper and is sounding attractive

OP posts:
PiggyPoos · 17/03/2018 22:46

Heath, Whitchurch Rhiwbina or Birchgrove id go for.

Train from heath to city is 5 mins

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 22:56

But would we get anything like we want for 300k PiggyPoos

Funny enough I was reading this earlier about Newport

lostjanni · 18/03/2018 12:08

Interesting article indeed cottonsock, phoebemac, strangely i prefer the cheaper one haha.

Skippetydoodah · 18/03/2018 12:51

When we bought our house the agent said they are getting lots of people moving here from both Bristol and Cardiff.

lostjanni · 18/03/2018 13:13

skippetydoodah, yes i've been reading up on it, and it does seem to be happening, especially now they are creating the western powerhouse which is bristol, newport and cardiff.

Dinas Powys?

BishopstonFaffing · 18/03/2018 13:39

Because if you like that I know someone who is putting a similar house on that road on the market soon and it has a much bigger front and back garden and is semi detached

lostjanni · 18/03/2018 13:53

BishopstonFaffing, it looks nice-ish, but would want a bigegr garden and bigger bedrooms. But would love to see the other house.
