Hi everyone saw an earlier thread that went amazingly well for a hiusebuyer with suggestions for areas. So here's my cheeky attempt at it...
Living in Cardiff, planning to have kids, don't want to be more then 30 mins from city centre, need a good sized garden the bigger the better, and all for 300k max. All suggestions for areas and houses welcome.

Ah yeah you won’t get 10 acres in Cardiff! Different definitions of big garden!

House needs a bit of work but Pencoed has great schools for potential children and is 20 minutes on the train to Cardiff

Schoolconfusionbath · 17/03/2018 17:04

They are all lovely houses(& great areas!)

Remotedog · 17/03/2018 17:06

Or Bridgend but you are pushing the 30 minutes to Cardiff then

Dancingfairydreams · 17/03/2018 17:12

@lostjanji not too familiar with llandough other then the hospital Sorry! Victoria park would be another good place to look, possibly a bit further out but the area between cyncoed & roath might be an option? Walkable to the park for future kiddies etc but not full on roath park prices

DianaBlythe · 17/03/2018 17:21

Lots of land here, couple of miles outside Llantrisant

1.8 acres but house needs some work.

Love an excuse to search rightmove!!

This looks nice www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71941691.html

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 17:23

Wow thanks for all the replies. We know 10 acres is a pipe dream even 0.5 acres in Cardiff 😂😂

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 17:25

Dancingfairydreams looks lovely and rainwater seems a great place

We do like the sound of llandough due to the hospital as we both hcp so could probably transfer. Could we get anywhere in penarth for 300k

OP posts:
lostjanni · 17/03/2018 17:42

Well just looked and that's a no for penarth. Just a bit of info, garden is vv important and we need to be in the 30 min max commute. We also like a bit of life and soul but need 3 double bedrooms. 4 maybe

leghairdontcare · 17/03/2018 17:46

Where in Cardiff are you living now?

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 17:50

City centre, rented apartment.

OP posts:
lostjanni · 17/03/2018 17:55

But we're wanting to move to a family young professional community.

OP posts:
lostjanni · 17/03/2018 18:30

Thanks for the suggestions so far

Taylor22 · 17/03/2018 18:36

Hi OP. I would recommend looking in Bridgend.
My husband works in Cardiff and commutes very easily.

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 18:37

Thanks taylor22. Roughly how long is the commute

OP posts:
lostjanni · 17/03/2018 18:40

Just to let you know we do like city life so closer to Cardiff the better

CottonSock · 17/03/2018 18:43

I love Roath, but you would not get much of a garden for that I'm afraid

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71551238.html

I live in a nice street in Roath with big garden and spacious house. To my surprise, it was just valued at £340-360k.

Canton and Victoria park are nice, but gardens small.

Pen y lan and whitchuch lovely, but expensive.

You would get more for your money in Llanishan

Taylor22 · 17/03/2018 18:44

On a busy busy day 45 mins tops.

It is so much cheaper down here for more house and garden.

We love going out as well and with the train station we don't feel like we're missing out at all. We go into Cardiff city more than Bridgend town it's no inconvenience at all.

Taylor22 · 17/03/2018 18:45

I really advise you to go on rightmove and see what you can get in Bridgend for £300K you're looking at getting some of the nicest properties on offer near good schools.

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 18:54

Cottonsock, I do see that 300k in trendy roath wouldn't get us a lot at all tbh. Taylor22, idk I feel it would be weird living so far, I know we said 30 mins commute but then you look on maps and see how far away it looks and we are city people. But also garden people 😂😂😂

Canton, stylish 2 bed

This is what I would look at.
If you are considering Welsh language schools, the options widen up.
English medium schools in Roath and Canton are more challenging in my opinion.

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 19:01

We would consider Welsh language actually we would deffo go for it if the option was there. Some of those in canton don't look bad, I deffo think a loft conversion would be needed though as we want at least 3 double beds.

lostjanni · 17/03/2018 19:02

We are a bit spoiled 😂, I grew up in a 5 bed detached with 0.5 acres and hubby a 6 bed with 10 acres but both in countryside and we are both city people now 😂😂. Sometimes I want inner city living with country childhood houses.
