Extensions - builders doing the whole job or just parts of it - eg foundations and walls

We’re planning an extension and have had quotes from builders for the whole job to a plaster finish .
Thing is my brother is an electrician and his mate can do the carpentering so Ideally I want a builder who will do the big work but then allow me to save money by getting my brother and his mate to do the bits they can . I understand why some might not be keen but there must be some builders who would work in this way - any ideas how I go about finding one?

I’m south east btw

It would depend on what the extension is ie kitchen and how long you are prepared to wait for trades.

Our builder organised all subcontractors but we dealt with them directly as there was additional work we wanted done. There was a small break in the middle as we waited for the plaster to dry and we decorated ourselves.

Then the kitchen fitter came and did his bit, then the electrician was back to do second fix electrics.

But the timings were mainly dealt with by the builder and it would also depend how available you are to oversee stuff. I was lucky enough to be there every day to make decisions about stuff.

The build went really smoothly, was on time and almost on budget (building regs people asked for something additional with the foundations) so we went about £300 over. But even so, I was glad when it was finished and I got my house back.
