What do you think about this quote to fit my Howdens kitchen.

It’s a medium size kitchen from howdens. Approx 11 units. It’s doesn’t include the worktop fitting. No island.

£4.2K plus vat.

This includes removing the current kitchen which is smaller.

I think it’s very expensive. It’s the builder that is doing other building work for us.
This quote does not include extra electric points, lights or fitting any flooring.

We are paying 1500 for kitchen fitting. It's the builder that's doing the extension, so kitchen already removed. This is London. So yours seems a huge amount.

ElsieMc · 28/02/2018 14:34

You have got to be joking op. I had a Howdens kitchen and used one of their recommended fitters - but I already knew him through the kids' school. I had a choice of two, but he was just more personable and this is important when someone is in your home for a week.

We took out our old kitchen though. Is it including electrics etc? We were quoted £1275, two men working for 5 days - took them four. Nineteen units, dishwasher, rangemaster fridge, freezer and rangemaster cooker.

We paid £4800 for the units, the dearest ones they do, painted oak I think. Our fitter negotiated it down to £4500.

Minor snagging issues, one drawer off it's runner. He also came back and readjusted the cabinets as the wood cabinets can "drop" and need adjustment. I also burnt the new work top (yes, I know) and he replaced it with some left over we had from the original job. Again, he did not charge me although it was my fault and I just gave his apprentice £20. Bear in mind, mine was solely unit fitting.

Pleased with units five years on.

TheFillijonk · 28/02/2018 14:37

That includes the cost of the kitchen right, OP?

ihatethecold · 28/02/2018 14:47

No. The cost of the units is separate.

We are doing quite a bit of work in the house and it’s supposed to start in 3 weeks.
The builder emailed the plumbing quote over at 5k to fit a new boiler
And the kitchen quote was as above to fit it.
I’m starting to get cold feet.
When he originally quoted back in Oct the costings seemed acceptable but now we are pinpointing him to break it down and added the new boiler it’s getting slightly ridiculous.

Whaaaat? That's madness!

Flomy · 28/02/2018 14:54

No way.

Thats obscene Sad

fitbitbore · 28/02/2018 15:01

I just paid 1k to two builders to fit 18 units with work tops!!!

ShowOfHands · 28/02/2018 15:05

We had a full central heating system with 9 radiators and new combi boiler for 2k all in. This was last year.

ourkidmolly · 28/02/2018 15:07

5k for fitting? You must have misunderstood?

gamerchick · 28/02/2018 15:11

Bare in mind OP that price hasn’t come from howdens. See if you can compromise with your builder. It’s him that has the wiggle room.

Boredboredboredboredbored · 28/02/2018 15:15

Just had carpenter in today to quote mine. Similar amount of units and he charges a day rate of £150 said he'll have it done in a week so £750 in total. This includes cutting out oak worktops too. I think they're taking the piss

thirtyplusone · 28/02/2018 15:27

Run for the hills! 2600 inc VAT here. Removal of old kitchens, disposal, fitting 16 new units, plastering 3 walls and ceiling, reposition gas and sink, washing machine and dishwasher plumbing. London.

thirtyplusone · 28/02/2018 15:30

Also we’ve been quoted 2700 inC VAT for a new boiler fitting and resposition, including the boiler itself.

SimonBridges · 28/02/2018 15:31

Far too much. We paid £1k (but it was sort of mates rates). That was take out the old kitchen, fit 12 units, box in pipework and a boiler and fit a dishwasher.

greendale17 · 28/02/2018 15:31

You are being ripped off! That doesn’t even include worktop fitting? What?

Our kitchen was 1.5k to fit over 5 days and had 14 units including worktops

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 28/02/2018 15:33

Far, far too much!

ihatethecold · 28/02/2018 15:34

Fuck!!

We were quoted £4K by Wren to fit our kitchen, 12 units. Even the saleswoman raised her eyebrows! Very pleased with the now-finished kitchen but said no thanks to the fitting and DH (over many weeks and bar the worktop) having no prior experience has done it all himself.

OakIsBetterTho · 28/02/2018 15:52

He's making a mockery of you with that price. I work in a builders merchants, specialising in kitchens funnily enough, and that is genuinely taking the piss.

ElsieMc · 28/02/2018 15:56

Yes, your builder is having a laugh and taking advantage of you. My fitter was certainly not the cheapest about and it is the second cheapest on here. I didn't want to pay more than £1,000 and that is why he renegotiated on my unit price for me so everyone was happy.

yomellamoHelly · 28/02/2018 16:01

Way too much. We had 17 units fitted incl worktop, lights, plumbing and sockets for £1,800 incl. plumbing in of sink and integrated dishwasher and ff and upstand. He's taking the piss. (SW London 2 years ago)

sparklyshoes16 · 28/02/2018 16:06

That is a lot!!! £2000 for our Kitchen that was for everything, new electrics, units, plumbing, flooring you name it...and all certified!! Think you need to find a new builder.

sparklyshoes16 · 28/02/2018 16:08

That was 2017 up North... included VAT and lighting for kitchen...

FiveNightsAtMummys · 28/02/2018 16:11

Had a boiler fitted here 1200. With a 10 year guatentee!
