Has anybody used the companies that rent your driveway space? Has anybody used them for parking in?

Good and bad points please

Do they provide what they advertise?

Or is it a con?

What happens when you book a parking spot to go to concert or hospital or wedding or whatever?

Which ones have you used and why did you choose one company over the others?

How secure are credit card details etc?

Thank you

I used to use just park when I had to drive to the outskirts of London, it was great.

Emily7708 · 21/01/2018 18:06

I’ve used Just Park a few times in Canary Wharf and West London with no problems at all. Just try to use people with good feedback already if you’re worried.

IhaveChillyToes · 21/01/2018 18:07

I haven't used them but I rent my back yard parking space out through Just Park, I've always found the process very simple from my end. The person renting can msg me through the site and we can discuss things back and forwards through the site.

IhaveChillyToes · 21/01/2018 18:10

So you don't actually meet the owner but pay the money then park in their driveway?

And you get sent our name and reg number?

Tripilates · 21/01/2018 18:12

Yes, all done through website. I have used for events in London with no problems

IhaveChillyToes · 21/01/2018 18:13

It just seemed a simple idea that I thought it must be a kind of con

I used to advertise my drive when I lived next to a train station one stop away from Gatwick.
I had a fairly regular trickle of customers, some repeat business. Hardly made me a fortune though!

FartsMeanHearts · 21/01/2018 18:15

Used one in Southampton to park in before our cruise

Was fine

ineedamoreadultieradult · 21/01/2018 18:15

No you just pay the money through the site, turn up and park. If I'm going to be in when the people are arriving I'll let them know they can knock on if they need any help with walking directions to their venue etc but generally even if I am in I don't hear a peep from them and at some point I'll look out the window and be like 'oh they've arrived'

IhaveChillyToes · 21/01/2018 18:19

Ok I am going to bite the bullet and book it

Thank you everyone

Use just park and my parking space for frequent visits taking my son to Royal London and GOSH over the last 3 years...they save a hell of a lot of money rather than using a "proper" car park,I have never had any problems, and to be honest don't know what we would have done with it!

han01uk · 21/01/2018 18:24

And in all that time I haven't met the owner of the spaces, but have had contact details for them which are sent through after your payment has been made. Frequently if we are tied up at the hospital I will send a message and apologise that we are late and offer perhaps an extra payment, which is usually declined.

I use ParkonmyDrive to park when I go to Wembley Stadium for concerts/football. I did meet the owner first time and now I book direct with her rather than through the site.

Its great - 10 minutes walk but the route out has no traffic so much quicker than parking near the Stadium.

IhaveChillyToes · 21/01/2018 18:28

@han01uk is there any difference between the two companies cos looked again and found option of one from each company?

Which one did you find better?

Yes both heaps cheaper than NCP and also doesn't matter if appointment overruns cos costs same amount of money so added positives SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

I used Just Park when going to Paris on the Eurostar, parked on someone's drive about a 5 min walk from St Pancras. Never met or had any contact with the person, just parked the car, went away for 3 nights, came back and drove off. No issues at all Smile

han01uk · 21/01/2018 18:50

Chillytoes- no I didn't find any difference, run in what appears to be the same way, even some similarities to the site (so much so I thought I was still on just park, and was losing the plot as it didn't remember my details, only to find it was a different company!),both very straightforward and easy to use

scrabbler3 · 21/01/2018 19:15

Do people renting out their drives need to let their house insurers know?

IhaveChillyToes · 21/01/2018 20:07

We rented one for the day once, turned up and someone else (who had also booked) was parked in it. Turns out after a bit of investigation with the man who owned it that the car parked there had got the wrong day! We couldn't do anything about it but the man let us use his neighbours space as they were away for the week.
