Do you think I could fit a stair runner on my own?

Stair carpet is so hideously awful, brown worn polypropylene with little or no underlay and the tacks coming through and nicking the kids’ feet. I’m pretty handy - could I rip it off, paint sides and fit a cheap runner from eBay myself or is it doomed? And do you think this one will be alright? So skint but desperate to change what’s there.

I did mine myself. I just started at the top and took my time making sure it was pinned down securely.
I got mine from eBay as well. Did it a few years ago and it’s still attached.

Brilliant! What did you pin it down with?

Of course!

Yes - not difficult at all. Go for it!

Most diy is common sense, have a peak under existing carpet and see what state the sides of the staircase are in. If they are already painted or vanished should be easy to put a fresh coat on down the sides. If not you may need to sand any possible splinters before finishing.

Putting the runner down is fairly straightforward. Need to ensure that you get it straight at the top but after that it is a vase of just working your way down. You can use carpet tacks to hold it in place. Usually tacked in under the lip of each stair and in the crease at the back.

_ pin it down with carpet tacks. Go to B&Q or similar and they'll help if need be.

Yea sorry did it with carpet tacks and hammered them in various places. And made sure they were in properly.

There’s probably YouTube videos how to do it if your a bit nervous.

Hardest bit was working out how much I needed.
